PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES THOROUGHLY. BY CLICKING THE SUBMIT BUTTON YOU ARE ACKNOWLEDGING YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF THESE GUIDELINES. THIS DOCUMENT IS A BINDING LEGAL AGREEMENT.
Financial Guidelines:
1. None, yet. You will not be financially remunerated for any contribution at this point. If at any time an author becomes a staff or freelance contributor there be no financial compensation made for previously published works.
Creative Guidelines:
1. All submissions must be sent in Microsoft Word format.
2. All submissions must be single spaced and 400-600 words in length. Some exceptions to length may be made.
3. All submissions must be free of profanity and vulgarity. Instances of slander, racism, sexism, and religious prejudice must be of a satirical nature. Feel free to submit stories dealing with any subject, but any content deemed too extreme will be rejected.
4. All submissions are subject to editorial discretion. Content may be edited to conform to quality/ethics standards without advance notice to the author.
5. There may be times when the author will be contacted for a rewrite if the editorial process causes a significiant change to the text of the submission.
6. You may use a pseudonym for publication, but your legal first and last name must be included in your submission.
7. Do not include photos.
8. Submissions must be funny. Articles deemed unfunny will be rejected with a very sarcastic form letter.
Copyright Guidelines:
1. All submissions must not have been published in any other form at any time previously.
2. No submissions may contain copyrighted material by another author/entity. Any violations of this policy may result in legal action against the author by the copyright claimant and The Virtual Union.
3. Upon publication, the author agrees to transfer copyright to The Virtual Union for a period lasting no less than one (1) year. If requested in writing, copyright will be transferred back to original author after one (1) year. This will also result in said article being removed from publication. After one (1) year, copyright will be retained by The Virtual Union until such time as the author requests transfer of said rights. Any legal queries concerning content will be the sole responsibility of the author, even within the one (1) year period, upon which time copyright will be transferred back to the author and the submission will be removed from publication.
4. In the case of rejection, copyright will be retained solely by the author. All works declined for publication will be accompanied by a rejection letter.
5. Any queries made in respect to published stories must be submitted via the email address from which the submission was originally made. Any inquiries made from an address not corresponding to the one on record will be ignored.
6. Any reprint of submitted stories must include Scrape TV branding and notice of first publication.
