WILL IT BLEND? HOST BREATHES SMOKE, BLENDS HAND
June 6 2008
Provo, UT – Tragedy has befallen the lovable and now iconic Tom Dickson and the Will it Blend? family as the result of an on set accident.
For the uninitiated, Will it Blend? Is a series of viral videos produced for the Blendtec blender that has taken the web by storm. In the videos, Tom Dickson the founder of Blendtec (a division of K-Tec), blends various unlikely objects in the company’s “Total Blender”. Items such as lighters, golf balls, even an iphone, and garden rakes have all made appearances on the videos. At the conclusion of each episode, Dickson warns the viewers not to breathe the dangerous smoke emitted by the blended remains. It appears, ironically, that Dickson has fallen victim to his own warning.
After blending a combination of items representing the various summer blockbuster movies, Dickson apparently collapsed on top of the blender and activated the blender. Reportedly his hand fell into the jug and he was injured before crew members could pull him away. From early reports it appears that Dickson got too close and inhaled the summer blockbuster smoke, causing his collapse.
“Tom was slightly injured on the set,” a blendtec official said. “He is resting comfortably and the doctors have said he will make a full recovery. We will resume producing videos as soon as Tom is back up on his feet.”
Considering the nature of some of the items the company has blended, it is hardly surprising that an accident has occurred. New attention has been focused on the safety of the phenomenon that has so taken the web by storm.
“It’s very concerning. These are professionals in professional circumstances. I have seen the number of parodies and copycats on YouTube. If these people can have an accident like this, amateurs are at very great risk indeed,” said Sandra Grant of the internet watchdog Web Focus. “The internet is a haven for this kind of behaviour but all it will take is one fool copycatting and hurting himself and all this will come to a screeching halt.”
For the record, it has not been established which button Dickson used when blending his hand.
