AK-47 SALES PRIMED FOR A REBOUND AS ECONOMY IMPROVES
October 1 2009
Izhevsk, Russia – There has been few weapons throughout the history of warfare that have been so much a part of their time as the AK-47. The spear, the broadsword, the katana, the Colt Revolver, and the Kalashnikov are all weapons that have
embodied their eras and become the dominant weapons of their time. No single bran, though, has had the kind of global impact that the Kalashnikov has had, arming militaries, terrorists, and spree killers no matter the country or the ultimate purpose.
Despite that popularity, or perhaps because of it, the makers of the AK-47 have been hit with hard times of late. The growing aftermarket production of weapons and the continuing economic decline have both contributed to erosion of the Izhmash Arms factory, located in central Russia. Despite those issues and very serious concerns about the future of the country many expect that the company will rebound as the economy improves and killing once again becomes a profitable business.
“We are in the hardest times we have ever been. Let’s not make any mistake about that. Things are as hard as they have ever been for our company and until things change we are on the precipice. There are strong signs that the economy is improving and that will help. The forgeries will continue to be an issue but once people start going back to work organized murder will increase which will secure our bottom line,” said a spokesperson for the company. “The Kalashnikov has long been the weapon of choice for all types of mercenaries, terrorists, and of course militaries, all of which depend on exploitation in order to remain profitable. Because many people have very little in the way of spare money hanging around that exploitation has been limited which has in turn limited our profits.”
At least eight countries have been producing AK-47’s without licences something Izhmash has warned is very dangerous for the end users.
“The Kalashnikov may seem to be a very simple weapon and in its functionality that is

true. That is the reason it has been so widely adopted across the world. There’s a lot lying beneath that simplicity though and any aftermarket weapons are going to suffer from lower levels of quality control which could make these guns extremely dangerous,” said Scrape TV Business analyst Ken Green. “Of course the real danger is that all of this competition as well as the overall economic decline could forever eliminate the one true manufacturer of the weapon leaving the world with only copies, inevitably leading to the decline of the weapon across the world. That of course would have a devastating impact on all people who depend on the weapon in order to make a living.”
Weapons experts have come to no agreement as to what weapon might ultimately replace the Kalashnikov and fear that copies will remain in the pipeline for many years to come, potentially undercutting profits and eroding staff.
“The real issue here is that people do in fact kill people. Weapons are merely the implements of death not the progenitors of it and if these weapons start to blow up in people’s faces there will far fewer able to wield them in an effective manner,” continued Green. “Of course the Kalashnikov is such an easy weapon to master that even children are able to handle it in most cases. That will ensure that some people are still around to use those largely faulty weapons for a long time to come. Of course should organized murder start to pick up again than this whole argument may be moot.”
Izhmash also stated that they plan to move into previously untapped markets such as French separatists in Canada and Tea Party protestors in the United States.
