Pennsylvania, PA – On the eve of the launch of his newest film “The Happening”, Oscar nominated writer/director M. Night Shyamalan has let slip details of his next film, tentatively titled “The Stain’.
“All of my films are based in a form of reality. The Sixth Sense was about my childhood fear of ghosts, Signs about my childhood fear of Aliens, Lady in the Water my childhood fear of people in pools. I believe all terror comes from some base childhood fear. The new film falls into that tradition,” said Shyamalan to reporters.
“The Happening of course is about my childhood fear of everyone dying around me. It’s really a scary film. Did I mention that it’s my first R-rated movie? Mark Wahlberg is fantastic in it, as is Zooey Deschanel. They are two of the best actors of their generation and it was an honour to work with them. They’ve said the same thing about me and it feels great to have worked with them on my first R-rated movie,” he continued. “As for the new movie, it began when I saw a strange stain on my bathroom wall. It evoked memories of my childhood fear of stains on tiles, and that got me thinking.”
Typically Shyamalan was not forthcoming on details of the new project; going further he only said that at this stage the new film might be his second R-rated movie and that he has spoken to a number of actors who have expressed interest in the project, though he declined to name names.
He also declined comment as to how this new project would affect the previously announced “Avatar: The Last Airbender” movie that had already been announced, only to say that the project is “still in development.”
“I’m really psyched about these R ratings. It’s like a whole new world that I’ve never explored before.” Left to speculate as to whether the Avatar movie will be along similar lines, as Shyamalan declined to comment on the possibility of the children’s anime inspired movie featuring harsh content or his signature twist ending. “R is where it’s at and we are letting everyone know that through the advertising. Don’t go and see the Hulk movie this weekend. That thing’s only PG-13. Everyone knows that’s barely even a movie.”
“The Happening” releases this Friday the 13th.
