VANNA WHITE CONSIDERS RETIREMENT AFTER ALPHABETICAL DISASTER

July 5 2009

Hollywood, CA – For twenty-eight years ‘Wheel of Fortune’ has been a mainstay of prime time television. The simplicity of the game show combined with the dream of winning untold riches has compelled generations of television watchers and kept it as one of the longest running and most popular television shows in history. Part of that wheel of fortune
success has no doubt been the two co-hosts who have been with the program since the beginning. Together Pat Sajak and Vanna White have been turning letters and realizing dreams for hundreds but like all good things, even that must end someday.

For many the team of Sajak and White has become an almost essential part of their game show experience, the pair creating one of the most enduring of television teams in history. Now rumours are beginning to swirl that that power duo may be at an end due to an on set accident. Early reports indicate that an injury suffered by the vanna white sitting
letter-revealing Vanna White may have doomed the future of the team and perhaps the show itself. Though the exact nature of the injury has not yet been revealed sources indicate that it may be serious enough to prompt an early retirement for White who simply may not be able to perform her duties any longer.

“We do not comment on rumours or speculation in regards to any of our shows or any of our stars. Wheel of Fortune is our longest running and most loved shows and there is no reason for anyone to be concerned about the future of the program either in the immediate or long term future,” said a spokesperson for Merv Griffin Enterprises which produces the show. “Wheel of Fortune is as strong as it ever has been and we want to ensure our loyal viewers that it will be around for a very long time to come. These rumours are salacious and unfounded and we ask that they stop immediately.”

Calls to White’s agent received a similar response but rumours of injury continue to make the rounds of the game show circuit.

“I don’t know exactly what happened to her but I do know it was on set and it was while she was changing a letter. That’s likely why they are saying anything about what vanna white letters
happened because there is a liability issue. Regardless of what they are saying outwardly though the show is at serious risk at the moment and producers are doing everything they can to keep rumour down and things running smoothly,” said an insider who preferred not to be named. “They have never faced a crisis like this and that is part of what is making it so difficult for them to deal with. Vanna White has been the face of that show forever and losing her would be something akin to a catastrophe that they are really ill-equipped to deal with. They are also concerned that the nature of the injury could prompt format changes that they and their viewers would respond to negatively.”

Producers are reportedly scrambling to find a potential replacement for White and are considering a full-fledged format change that would also oust co-host Sajak.

“I can certainly understand a desire to change the format despite its almost endless vanna white seated
popularity. Some small things have changed but all in all the show is more or less the same as it was when it first aired. They could look at this as an opportunity or as a potential end to a virtual blank check that has sustained the company and networks for decades but one thing is clear; things are going to change,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “It makes you wonder about the nature of injury though. I mean she just walks back and forth pushing buttons. In the days when she actually had to turn the letters I could see there being a risk of getting a finger caught or her hair getting tied up but with buttons, well I just don’t know. Of course she could also be sick of doing the job. Doing that for three days a month for twenty-eight years is no doubt a little taxing and I can see her wanting to get out while she’s still relatively young. Perhaps she’s pursing other alphabetical-based career opportunities while she’s still young.”

Despite her success on the show it’s not immediately clear if White is fully versed in the alphabet.
