2012 RELEASE RAISES CONCERNS THAT ROLAND EMMERICH MAY HAVE BEEN RIGHT ALL ALONG
November 12 2009
Hollywood, CA – There are few in the film community who would consider Roland Emmerich amongst the greatest of filmmakers in history. His stories, at least his popular ones, have often revolved around the destruction of the planet in some shape
or form, whether through aliens, giant lizards, or environmental apocalypse. Despite more or less universal ridicule, Emmerich has forged a massively successful career with only small box office bombs in his no lengthy career, a streak the upcoming ‘2012’ is likely to continue.
‘2012’ though marks a departure of sorts for the filmmaker. With the majority of his projects depicting fanciful environments and largely ridiculous situations, ‘2012’ has a basis in the real world. It is that year which, according to the ancient Mayans, that will mark the end of humanity and the destruction of Earth. Emmerich’s choice of the film, not his first venture into the real world but his most plausible, has many concerned that film goers and critics may have been underestimating the director all along. Though it will be another three years before we are able to determine whether or not the events depicted in the new film will come true, Emmerich’s filmography may provide signposts that will allow us to prepare for total destruction.
“Emmerich could very well have just continued to work in the fictional world, at least
the totally fictional world but he didn’t do that. He chose an event that many people are actually concerned about and is offering us a vision of what may actually happen in a few years. The concern is that he may actually be a seer of some kind and that things are going to be very rough between now and the destruction of the planet,” said futurist Miles Crawford. “You see the destruction of the cities and the panic that people are enduring in the movie and you could see that actually happening. Some may look at that and say it’s great special effects or great acting but some of that has to come from the truth, and the truth may indeed be the future.”
Starring John Cusack and Woody Harrelson, 2012 is expected to be one of the biggest hits of the year. It has also endured endless ridicule on the web, something that may indicate latent fear of the possibility of total obliteration.
“The next two to two and half years will be the real indicator as to how things will go. If a giant lizard starts storming through New York or aliens come down and destroy half the planet then we will know that he has been showing us our future, and that the human species truly is damned,” continued Crawford. “Often seers have been ignored and ridiculed as lunatics but so often they are proven correct. Nostradamus went ignored in his time but his predictions have helped to shape the modern world. If we ignore Emmerich we may live to regret it, at least for a little while.”
In Greek mythology Cassandra, the daughter of Priam, was given the gift of prophecy by the god Apollo. After she rejected his romantic advances he cursed her, ensuring that no one would ever heed her visions. Emmerich has reportedly visited Greece many times.
“For Emmerich that would actually be a kind of good thing. Despite all his success he has never really gained any kind respect but if he were able to successfully predict the end of the world, and all these other events, that view of him will change dramatically. Granted, that won’t last for long but at least it’s something,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “If he’s wrong, then he’s wrong. He’ll just have to be happy with his millions of dollars, at least the future of humanity will be safe.”
Reports of a giant stone arch being found in the Egyptian desert are apparently incorrect.
