DAN AYKROYD CAST IN A MOVIE

November 10 2009

Hollywood, CA – For a time Dan Aykroyd was one of the biggest stars on the planet. A breakout star from the heyday of Saturday Night Live, Aykroyd started to build a film formidable career starring such hits as ‘The Blues Brothers’ and ‘Trading Places’. blues brothers dan aykroyd john belushi
All that though was simply a precursor to the events of 1984. That year saw the release of ‘Ghostbusters’, a film that made Aykroyd into a true movie star and provided the world with a film that would stand the test of time and entertain for generations to come.

Over the next few years Aykroyd continued to appear in numerous films, some hugely successful and others a little more subdued. Even into the 1990’s Aykroyd continued to appear in hit films. Projects like ‘My Girl’ and ‘Chaplin’ saw the comedian take on smaller but still prominent roles in big films. Recently though Aykroyd has been largely absent from the silver screen, appearing in only a handful of films since a very productive 2004. For the most part that lack of presence has been largely welcome due to the decreasing quality of his films and his performances in them. Now though Aykroyd has been cast in new movie and may actually be appearing in a few more over the next handful of years, surprising and delighting more than few people.dan aykroyd

“I can confirm that Dan will be joining the cast of ‘Burke and Hare’. He will be joined by Simon Pegg, Bill Nighy (both of Shaun of the Dead fame) as well as the current Dr. Who David Tennant in the film. The project will be directed by Dan’s old friend and collaborator John Landis,” said Aykroyd’s agent in a statement. “This is just the start for Dan. Alongside the much anticipated ‘Ghostbusters III’, Dan has a number of roles lined up over the next few years meaning that his fans will once again get a chance to connect with one of their favourite stars in the format he has proven himself a star time and time again.”

In addition to the rumoured new Ghostbusters film, Aykroyd is also appearing in an animated version of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and is reportedly in negotiations to star alongside Justin Timberlake in a big screen version of the cartoon classic ‘Yogi Bear’.dan aykroyd

“It’s been a long time coming for many of Aykroyd’s fans but the news of the last few days will likely cure a lot of that heartache. Things have been really slim over the last few years and as Aykroydy as they are his performances in ‘Christmas with the Kranks’ and ‘Crossroads’ just haven’t been enough to satiate the rabid desire of his fans,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “His fans have shown incredible loyalty to him over the years and for the last few he unfortunately hasn’t repaid that that dedication which understandably has caused a lot of frustration. Add to that the constant teasing of the new Ghostbusters movie and you have a lot of angry fans, who will hopefully now feel a little better about things.”

The Burke and Hare movie reunites Aykroyd with Landis, the director of both ‘Blues Brothers’ movies. He has also been largely absent from the Hollywood scene in recent years, though hasn’t really been missed.dan aykroyd m emmet walsh christmas with the cranks

“Aykroyd has always described himself as a writer with performing almost a necessary evil to further his career. As brilliant as he has been with scripts it is his person that has made him so beloved and it is that which will ultimately put him back in the hearts of his fans,” continued Temple. “Now his fans can finally put away their old DVD’s of ‘The Devil and Daniel Webster’ and ‘Intern Academy’ and get ready for a return to the grand old days.”

Aykroyd will reportedly be taking on the lead role in the Yogi Bear film.
