KENNY LOGGINS MAKES PLANS TO RULE TWITTER
October 13 2009
Santa Barbara, CA – There is no child, or adult for that matter, of the 80’s that doesn’t know the music of Kenny Loggins. His musical contributions to such decade defining films as ‘Top Gun’, ‘Footloose’, and ‘Caddyshack’ cemented his patented pop-
rock hybrid in the minds and hearts of virtually every young man and woman throughout the decade. Despite that huge success Loggins has remained largely out of the spotlight in recent years. Dedicating his formidable musical talent to children’s songs and touring in small locales Loggins has returned to his roots, though that may not last for long.
Loggins, in an exclusive interview with Scrape TV News, has outlined his plans for the future and it includes all things new media. The singer detailed his planned resurgence to the top of the pop charts and eventually ascendency to pop stardom once again. His first strike will apparently be the ubiquitous micro-blogging site Twitter, which he has been a part of for some time now. After conquering that forum Loggins plans to move onto Facebook and other new media darlings to once again put himself in the forefront of young people’s hearts and minds.
“I’ve been Twittering for a little while now but I really haven’t put all the effort into that I could have. I keep the updates fresh, in fact I did one just a few hours ago, but I haven’t been nearly as aggressive as I need to be and I’m going to change that. I mean if Ashton Kutcher can have over a million followers I can kill that,” said Loggins from his Santa Barbara home. “I was a part of the media of the 1980’s and dominated that so I know I can do it again. Twitter, Facebook, all of it. I’m sending it to the Danger Zone. I’m Footloose and letting it go towards the future.”
Loggins has had limited chart success since the release of the ‘Top Gun’ soundtrack in 1986. His greatest success has come from a series of ‘Winnie the Pooh’ related songs.
“As I’ve gotten older I realize how much I really liked that success. When I was in it I admit that I took it a little for granted and just expected t hat it would continue but of course that didn’t happen. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve really enjoyed my life since then but there is something in every performer that makes them want to be the best, to feel like you are at the top and I want that back,” continued Loggins. “The way to do that is with the media of the time. All these new media tools are great and they allow exposure like nothing before. If someone is able to harness that power and use it to their advantage, well then they are in the danger zone for sure and that’s exactly where I plan to be.”
Loggins recently released a new digital-only single, ‘There is a Mountain’, off his newest EP ‘all join in’. It is the singer’s first major foray into the online music world.
“I was making music back when you had to get it on records so for me this digital world is all totally new. I know that some of it alienates my older fans but it does allow me to connect to the new generation. They use the internet a lot and that makes it the perfect avenue for me to explore both from a creative and financial standpoint,” continued Loggins. “Once I get my music out there I know it will appeal to a whole new generation who love the internet and everything it brings. Once I get my music out there and dominate things like Twitter I will be able to open up a whole new world for me and for my new fans. One day soon I will be dominating the internet and then I’ll really be able to say I’m Alright.”
Loggins currently has a little over 3500 followers on Twitter.
