LETTERMAN AT NO SHORTAGE OF OFFERS AS MISTRESS GETS PAID LEAVE
October 17 2009
New York, NY – There are many stresses that people of prominences and power are subjected to but none as humiliating as when the details of their personal life are left exposed. Thought few feel pity for the powerful because of the relative ease of their
life, it is that presence in the world that makes their failures that much greater and much more degrading. For David Letterman, who has made great bank on those miseries, his current personal predicament has come down like a hammer.
The revelation of Letterman’s affairs with staffers has been one of the biggest stories in recent weeks with virtually every news outlet hammering the story home. While Letterman’s public profile has taken a major hit, and no doubt his family life has been thrown into turmoil, reports indicate that if he were so interested he would be at no shortage of women. Much of that increased interest comes on the heels of the announcement that his primary mistress, Stephanie Birkitt, was given a paid leave of absence, something particularly appealing in an economy that is leaving people with few job opportunities. So far Letterman has not made good.
“The class of women showing up every day is phenomenal. Letterman has always had an appeal due in large part to his intelligence and sense of humour but we have never seen the kind of attention that he is getting now. I’ve worked for the show for a number of years and I can tell you without a doubt that this is the most attention he has received and the women, well, they are something else,” said an insider who preferred to remain anonymous. “I don’t know if he’s holding off until the media attention dies down or if he’s genuinely been humbled by this but I can tell you he has a ton of opportunities. No doubt that’s taking a little of the sting out of the embarrassment.”
Letterman reportedly prefers brunettes who can hold a conversation and is a leg man. A quick survey indicates that he has been receiving offers from women of various types.
“Initially the embarrassment had to have been overwhelming, never mind the related issues with staff and his family but now it’s taken on a life of its own. One has to wonder what he could accomplish if he just put his mind to it and indulged in his opportunities. I mean the uptick has been related to the hope of getting paid leave put he could always promise and not deliver,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “Superficially it could hurt his presence in the world view but he is 62-years old and really doesn’t have a whole lot more years hosting the show so he might as well take advantage of his opportunities while he still has them. Once this whole thing blows over things won’t be quite as easy, even for David Letterman.”
Letterman is still signed to host the ‘The Late Show’ through 2012, at which time it’s believed most of his opportunities will have dried up.
“Once you hit 65 things really change. It’s one of those ages, like 18, 21, and 30 that really speak to people. There is no denying your age when you hit 65 and not only does the person feel it, but people around them feel it as well. He’ll still have opportunities for all kinds of reasons but they won’t be what he’s getting now,” continued Temple. “I realize he has a wife and a son but he’s still young as far as celebrities go and he will regret it later if he doesn’t make the most of his time now. Of course many people don’t realize that until it’s too late, Hopefully that won’t happen to Letterman.”
Letterman’s sidekick, Paul Schaffer, is reportedly not getting shots at his leftovers.
