MAN GOING TO JAIL AFTER PUNCHING LEONA LEWIS
October 15 2009
London, U.K. – As has been displayed in numerous movies and television shows there is a pecking order in prison. Those with the most respectable crimes are given certain power and respect while others, say child molesters, are often put at serious
risk when mixing with the general population. Though there are many variables, crimes such as murder tend to float to the top and lesser crimes such as robbery wallow somewhere in the centre. Regardless of their ranking inside the prison walls on the outside all criminals are more or less regarded in the same way, as trouble.
The harsh realities of prison on the inside and out are a lesson that a young man from London is about the start learning. His pending imprisonment stems from an incident at a Piccadilly book signing in which he punched singer Leona Lewis in the head. The man, whose name
has not yet been revealed, was immediately taken down by security personnel. Lewis for her part was shaken but unharmed, something her attacker will likely be craving in the days and weeks to come as he faces a future compromised and potentially ruined because he punched Leona Lewis in the head.
“She had been signing autographs for around ninety minutes when a guy came up and punched her to the side of the head. The police were called immediately and medical attention has been sought. Leona's understandably badly shaken and apologises to the fans she was unable to meet and complete signings for,” said a spokesperson for the singer. “We will make no further comment on the incident. We are fully co-operating with the police and any enquiries they have. We are already looking forward to putting this incident behind us and look forward to great success with the release of this autobiography.”
Waterstones, the book store hosting the signing echoed those statements and assured other authors that this was an isolated incident and not a requirement for conducting signings at their store.
“There are many shocking things about this incident but I think the greatest one is going to be for that young man. Assault is a very serious offence and there were literally dozens of witnesses which means that he is going to go to jail. Because Lewis has a bit of a profile the prosecutor who gets this case will do everything he or she has to in order to get a conviction and a long term which means he is going away for awhile,” said Scrape TV Crime analyst Willard Weston. “The worst part about this for him is that he is going away for punching Leona Lewis. I mean you attack a celebrity and it ends up being Leona Lewis. What an odd thing to do and what a way to get status in prison. There are plenty of other celebrities who have more cache than her and would earn you a lot more respect than Leona Lewis. He should really protect his backside in prison.”
Also heavily depicted in prison tales are incidents of rape and sexual coercion, most often visited upon the weaker members of the population, something determined both by their nature and the nature of their crime.
“Even if he becomes a super badass in prison ultimately when he is released he will
have to admit to what he did. Inside the walls of a prison life is one thing but it’s when you get out that life really changes. From every prisoner I have spoken to over many years of covering the crime beat the hardest thing about prison is getting out,” continued Weston. “Take Brooks in ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ as an example. He lived inside the walls for so long that he simply couldn’t live on the outside anymore and that led him to take his life. This young man’s life is going to be ruined and for what? Leona Lewis? If there has ever been a case that begged for an insanity defence it’s this one.”
Leona Lewis’ biography is now on sale and her new album will be released in November, for anyone who might be interested.
