NEW STUDY POINTS TO DEATH STAR DESIGN CONSPIRACY
August 27 2009
San Francisco, CA – There is little doubt that the ‘Star Wars’ saga is one of them most popular movie tales ever told. Spawned from ancient roots in tales of knights and princesses the space age adventure tale will undoubtedly take a place amongst
the most venerated and enduring tales that have been told in any medium. The enduring popularity of the original set of films has only continued with the ‘prequel’ trilogy and will likely be enhanced by the forthcoming television show but despite that popularity though the series has not been without it dramas and criticisms.
Much of that criticism has revolved around certain creative choices masterminded by series creator George Lucas. From questionable characters to questionable changes of classic moments Lucas’ vision has consistently come under attack from fans and movie critics alike,
motivated primarily by the attitude that the series belongs to them and not the creator. Though far from the worst of the criticisms against the series a new group has vowed to uncover the reason and the possible conspiracy behind the destruction of the two ‘Death Stars’ depicted in the films, which had been touted as the most powerful force in the universe.
“It’s very simple. Major dollars, major labour, and major plans had gone into the development of the Death Star in the original movie yet they created such an obvious weakness. It wasn’t like they didn’t know about the weakness; in fact they even created a tunnel that led right to it. They lined that tunnel with turrets as if they expected someone to come racing down it, someone with just the right training to be able to lob a shot into the
core and destroy the whole thing,” said Mark Kingston, President of the Death Star Conspiracy Panel. “By the time Jedi came around they had these huge gaping holes in the sides. True they were still in the midst of building the thing and those could have been for worker access but it was still really easy both times for the rebels to blow the whole thing up. In our minds that could only mean that someone on the inside was involved.”
Neither the movies nor Lucas himself have revealed any of the details of the construction of the mighty Death Stars but because of similar design techniques it is believed that the designers of the first station were likely the same as the second.
“Some of the rationale might have come from a conversation in ‘Clerks’. In that movie
They talk about the labour that went into actually building the ship and the very high likelihood that a significant amount of the labourers were in fact slaves. If that extended to the designers that we could very well have a strong motivation for
creating a major weakness,” continued Kingston. “The flaw in the original could easily have been explained away as they did protect it, though with apparently marginally accurate turrets. The second one is just gaping though and that speaks to something else. There would have been no reason other than slavery to integrate such flaws because it ultimately killed the people bankrolling the project. If they were being paid they would have done a much better job but really they just wanted to be free.”
It’s seen as very unlikely that any firm evidence of a conspiracy will come to light and even less likely that anyone will be brought to trial, largely because the films are completely fictional as are the characters depicted.
“The main problem with trying to work out problems in a fictional universe is that you simply don’t have data to rely on. The heart of any criminal investigation is that you
have to rely on the facts and evidence and from that you draw conclusions. However
sensible and well thought out this theory might be the reality is there is no hard data to fall back on, thus making it very difficult to prove your case,” said Scrape TV Legal analyst Gabe Hawthorne. “The situations in the movies are definitely quite fishy but that doesn’t prove a conspiracy. It could prove that slave labour is unreliable and that these people were simply inept. Either way it’s likely we will never have a firm answer to why it was so easy for the rebel alliance to destroy these ships and will just have to live with the reality of it having happened.”
It’s believed that very few people care whether or not the destruction of the two Death Stars was a conspiracy or not, due in large part to it being fiction.
