NICOLAS CAGE’S HAIRPIECES MAY GET THEIR OWN FILM
October 28 2009
Hollywood, CA – It might not seem that way now, but Nicolas Cage is really one of the most unlikely of movies stars. First making his name in small movies with a very quirky charm, Cage’s career was certainly appearing to move in a different path than it

has taken. And then 1996 happened. It was that year that Cage’s career changed forever. An Oscar win for ‘Leaving Las Vegas’ and a starring role in the Jerry Bruckheimer explosion fest ‘The Rock’ showed the paradigm of Nicolas Cage, and two paths for him to take, and he chose.
Of course Cage, like most people, has never fully let go of his previous life, appearing in quirky films such as ‘Adaptation’ and ‘Matchstick Men’ in between ‘National Treasure sequels. It is that quirkiness then that has likely inspired his newest proposed film venture, and for
those who remember the days of Sailor Ripley and H.I. McDunnough it likely won’t come as a surprise. Cage has reportedly been pitching a new film which will feature the multiple hairpieces he has worn throughout his blockbuster career, showing the progression of the design as well as how it has affected his portrayal of various characters. Believed to be along the lines of ‘Being John Malkovich’ Cage is looking to have the film finished for release sometime in 2011.
“There comes a time in a person’s life when the only option is to face up to who they are. I have been facing that in my professional life for years but only recently in my personal life. Now I would like those two things to collide, the best way possible,” said Cage exclusively to Scrape TV News. “I don’t want to go into too many details about the story, and we are still working on the script, but I can tell you that it will totally cover the life of my hairpieces as well as the true nature of my head. It is the only way that I can truly come to terms with that aspect of my life, and bring it to the people so that they too can understand.”
Cage also stated that he has kept every hairpiece he has ever worn in his movies. They are currently in storage in his California home and have rarely been used since filming concluded. Cage did state that he does wear them on occasion to act out favourite scenes from various films.
“Quirky always works in some realms. You have to get the right formula together, both the right film and release it at the right time, but if you can nail that then you can really pull off something special. It remains to be seen whether or not Cage can do that anymore but it will be interesting to see him try,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “I checked out IMDB and this will be the first movie specifically about hairpieces. There have been many films that have featured hairpieces but none that have made them their central character. Interestingly, Cage and Bruce Willis have over have the hairpieces ever featured in film.”
Unlike Cage, Willis has always acknowledged his follicle challenges and reportedly has no interest in doing the same type of film.
“That would actually be an interesting box office challenge. Every now and then we see similar movies competing for dollars but we have never seen something like two wig movies competing with one another. It could actually bring hairpieces to the mainstream,” continued Temple. My guess is from a box office standpoint Cage would win. He has a huge standing internationally and Willis has seen serious eroding of his fan base of late. Of course Willis’ would have a lot more guns, which could be good.”
Cage’s hairpiece from his 2008 film ‘Bangkok Dangerous’ will likely take the starring role in the new film.
