RICK SCHRODER STILL ITCHING FOR A SILVER SPOONS REUNION

Hollywood, CA – With Hollywood seeming to mine their past for just about every new project nowadays it’s not surprising that some lesser known films and television shows are starting to get fresh attention. 
Films such as the remake of the uber-cult movie ‘The
Stepfather’ show that the industry is digging deep to come up with projects that might appeal to modern audiences. Some tales from the past though are seemingly being left there Hollywood still picks and chooses what they feel will be the most viable projects.
One of the properties which is facing great difficulty is the 1980’s sitcom ‘Silver Spoons’. The show, which depicted the life a super rich-kid Ricky Stratton, ran for five seasons on NBC and helped launched the careers of future stars Alfonso Ribeiro, Jason Bateman, and Rick Schroder who depicted the lead. Now Schroder is taking up the charge to remount the show, citing his own unabashed love for the program and a rabid fan base as the prime reason for a reunion. Schroder, who became a star as an adult on ‘NYPD Blue’, has been pitching a reunion show for a number of years but as yet has found no takers, something he is intent on changing.
“Obviously I have a great deal of affection for the show. That was my childhood. It launched my career so of course there is a strong connection to the show. There was a time when I kind of pushed it away, wanted to distance myself from my childhood but that was really just a phase, something that I kind of regret to be frank,” said Schroder in an exclusive interview with Scrape TV News. “I want to be clear though. I don’t want to see this reunion for selfish reasons. I feel that there is genuine creative and artistic spark attached to the show and I want to explore that. I feel like Ricky Stratton’s story isn’t over yet and I think it would be really exciting to see where life has led him. I don’t want to give away any plot details but I can tell you that it will be exciting.”
Schroder has also secured Ribeiro, who became a star as Carlton on ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’, to reprise his role as Ricky’s best friend Alfonso Spears. Apparently his character will have a similar arc to the lead. Erin Gray who was a major star in the decade will not return citing creative differences.
“I won’t talk about it in too much depth but let’s just say that Erin has a different for the story and for the characters. Her character was important, obviously, I mean she was Ricky’s mom, but our artistic sensibilities vary wildly as has always been the case,” continued Schroder. “There will also be a few surprise for all the fans. And yes, we have had discussions with Jason Bateman who is excited about doing it as long as it doesn’t interfere with his other projects. We will try really hard to make that work. I’m really excited about this.”
‘Silver Spoons’ featured, among other things, and indoor child sized train set that moved throughout the house, something that is likely to make a return in the reunion.
“The most exciting thing about all this digging into the past is that it brings young people 
into the world that their parents enjoyed. There was a reason that ‘Silver Spoons’ was so big in the 80’s and I don’t see any reason why it could hit in the same way today,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “This could also pave the way for other reunions and remakes of classic shows. I know that Emmanuel Lewis has been pitching a ‘Webster’ redux for years with no success. A successful ‘Silver Spoons’ and the growing interest in midgets could mean that will be on its way soon, paving the way for a return of virtually the whole decade.”
Despite Schroder’s enthusiasm, it’s believed that the studios are leaning towards a reimagining of the series that was developed by the ‘Battlestar Galactica’ duo Ron Moore and Glen Larson.
