BOY GEORGE GOING TO COURT TO HAVE FAME RETURNED

December 23 2009

London, U.K. – It may seem unlikely for younger people, but there was a time when Boy George was one of the biggest stars on the planet. For the first half of the 1980’s George, with his band Culture Club, had hit after hit, storming the dance clubs boy george culture club
and mainstream audiences. Part of that success was no doubt George himself, and sight to behold for a generation that was just learning what music videos could be, and part of that was the catchy beats and clever lyrics of a band at its height.

The eighties were of course a long time ago and many of the stars from that era have had trouble adapting to the modern world. Madonna for example has become a near parody of her former self, Prince has descended into some purple netherworld, and the biggest star of the era, Michael Jackson, has passed on. George’s life has fallen off the rails in similar ways with drug addiction and imprisonment a more-or-less regular occurrence his star has been significantly tarnished. Never one to give up though, the singer is intent on returning to the spotlight by hook or by crook. Now he has now decided to go to court to be allowed to appear on the hit television show ‘Big Brother’ in an apparent effort to resurrect his former life.handcuffed man

According to Channel 4 in the U.K. George, whose real name is George O’Dowd, is going to court in order to secure a position on the show alongside fellow fallen stars M.C. Hammer and Pamela Anderson. George has been on parole since being released from prison in May after being convicted for an incident that saw him handcuffing a male escort to a bed. While it’s unclear as to whether or not the judge will allow him to appear on the program the incident is proving that George still has the kind of pluck that helped make him a star three decades ago and could once again launch him to the top.

“I mean it inevitably happens to everyone who has a great deal of success. Things can’t last forever and very few people are able to maintain stardom and good will for an extended period of time. Johnny Carson did it some degree, Sean Connery as well, even Clint Eastwood but those people are the exceptions rather than the rule. It’s admirable that he’s still intent on making it back to the top but I think he’s going to have a tough row,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “Culture Club was of its era like no other band and I think it would be difficult for them to be a success even if everything was equal. If they were new they would have a tough go, but they are middle aged and that’s going to make things difficult for them.boy george 2007

George has been making a living as a D.J. and professional celebrity of late but it’s believed that he has pinned a great deal of hope on his potential appearance on the show.

“I think it’s very unlikely that people will simply forget everything that has passed and see him the way he once was. I mean the fact that he is very overweight and 48-years old will also make looking past all that difficult as well, but he has a history that is hard to ignore,” continued Temple. “Hopefully though this will at least give him a shot. I mean it’s a little sad that he has to go to court to ask a judge to allow him another shot at stardom but you do what you have to do I guess. Who knows, if this works we might see Hammer back on the charts. Maybe they could do a record together.”

We attempted to contact the other members of Culture Club for comment on the situation but no one could remember their names.
