COURTNEY LOVE LOSES CUSTODY OF DAUGHTER NO ONE KNEW SHE STILL HAD
December 14 2009
Los Angeles, CA – Courtney Love has certainly lived an interesting life thus far. Controversies, high profile relationships, bestselling albums, drug abuse, movie stardom are all some of the highs and lows that Love has experienced in her 45 years
on the planet. Even a year in her shoes could be an entire life for most people. Even as she enters middle age, Love is showing no signs of slowing down with high profile controversies and drug treatment.
Now comes word that Love has temporarily lost custody of her daughter, 17-year old Frances Bean Cobain, to Cobain’s mother and sister. While the attention garnered from the loss of custody will no doubt further the legend of Love, the fact that she has somehow been able to retain guardianship of another human being for seventeen years is coming as the greatest surprise to many people. Addled with numerous high profile drug binges, public drunkenness, abuse and assault charges amongst many other issues, Love has somehow been able to convince legal authorities that she is still capable of taking care of a daughter despite not being able to take care of herself, a feat that will no doubt place her amongst the great heroes of white trash parents everywhere.
“Love is a remarkable human being for so many reasons, some good and some bad. Whether she’s been doing good things or bad things, just about everything she has done is quite remarkable. She’s lived one of the most amazing public lives that has ever been lived, there’s little doubt of that. Few people would envy it, but it has been something to see,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “She’s really where she always wanted to be, famous for something. Every now and then she pops up and reminds us that she is around and that we still care about her, but really she’s always been there, hiding in the shadows, ready to drunkenly fall into the spotlight again. Love is truly remarkable.”
Like her deceased husband Love was a well regarded musician for a short period of time. Unlike Cobain, Love shot herself in the foot repeatedly.
“Perhaps the most remarkable thing about her is the fact that she has been able to raise a daughter amidst everything she has done in her life. I mean that’s obviously changed now, but she did it for seventeen years without having her taken away. It’s not like Love is sitting in a trailer park somewhere out of the eye of authorities. Everything she has done has been in public and no one was able to take her daughter away until now, that it is truly remarkable,” continued Temple. “There are parents who lose their children after one bender or a bust for buying weed but Love has held on through thick and thin, setting a standard that few people will ever be able to accomplish, just like everything else in her life.”
It’s not clear if Love’s celebrity has in some way protected her from the type of persecution that would be visited upon normal people or whether or not Frances might already be a lost cause.
“Her mother is, well her mother. Her father was a genius, but was also a drug addict who killed himself. She also has the added pressure of being the daughter of someone who is so beloved which is only going to add to her problems in being a normal person so it might be that many people believed she was already a write off,” continued Temple. “Why they would suddenly do an about face and take her away now is something to be asked, ultimately though she is undoubtedly a great role model for bad parents all over the country who are trying to keep or get back their children.”
Many believe that Frances will eventually make her way back into her mother’s arms, barring hypodermic needles.
