MILEY CYRUS GIVES HER OPINION AGAIN
November 18 2009
Hollywood, CA – The last few years have been quite remarkable for Miley Cyrus. Though it may seem that Cyrus has been a dominant media personality for years, it has only in fact been three since the tween star first arrived on the scene. In that time

she has sold millions of records, had hit movies, and become a centrepiece of media attention. Such a life would be remarkable unto itself, but when one realizes that she is still on the verge of turning seventeen, it becomes quite apparent that Cyrus is destined to live quite a remarkable life.
Part of the burden of living such a life, and being an idol to millions of young girls, is speaking out on important issues and having the knowledge with which to give an informed opinion. Cyrus has never lacked in that area, recently giving her very firm opinion on the music of Jay-Z to a pair of child interviewers. Now Cyrus has come out again with a strong opinion on the state of one of the entertainment world’s other huge properties, the Twilight series, once again confirming that Cyrus is beginning to position herself as a major voice of the next generation.
“I’ve never seen it, nor will I ever. It’s a cult, I don’t believe in it. I don’t like vampires, I don’t like any of the stuff, I don’t like the wolf that pops out of my screen when I’m watching TV at night. I don’t like it, I don’t want anything to do with it, I don’t like the shirts, I don’t like any of the stuff,” said Cyrus “I feel like, it’s like, people get like, really into it. People always like, fall in love with the characters … it makes me not like, I don’t know, I’m not into it. I’m not a huge Robert Pattinson fan. Girls aren’t really in love with Rob; they’re in love with Edward.”
Cyrus took a swipe at the ‘Twilight’ phenomenon and star Robert Pattinson earlier this year, something she later apologized for via her Twitter account. The latest chapter in the Twilight saga, ‘New Moon’, debuts in theatres this week.
“Cyrus has no doubt captured the zeitgeist of a generation in ways few have ever done before. Britney Spears certainly had her following, and Michael Jackson was about as a big a star as one could ever be but neither of them has been able to span so many mediums so successfully and retain a kind of intellectual worldliness. Even Elvis didn’t have the poise of Cyrus,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “It’s also quite bold of her. There is nothing hotter than Twilight at the moment and for her to come out against it, state her opinion right or wrong, really takes a lot of guts and she should be commended for that. That alone should solidify her as a role model for young girls who will be able to realize that they don’t need to simply swim with the tide and that they can indeed have minds of their own.”
Cyrus has thus far avoided other hot button topics such as the war in Afghanistan and the debate over health care but it’s believed that she is simply taking her time to study the topics thoroughly.
“At this point there’s really nothing that Cyrus can’t do. Luckily she realizes that power that she possesses and is choosing to wield it cautiously, only engaging in discussions that she has researched deeply and are of great personal importance to her,” continued Temple. “There’s little doubt that she is wise beyond her years and as she gets older that will only continue to improve. She will continue to make a huge impact on the entertainment world for many years to come and if this continues, the intellectual one as well.”
Cyrus confirmed that she will not be seeing ‘New Moon’ in theatres.
