HOLLYWOOD TO FINALLY MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT VAMPIRES

July 25 2010

Hollywood, CA – There are perhaps only two living people in the horror genre that truly deserve veneration. While others have made great and ground breaking contributions to the age-old medium, there are two people, George Romero and John john carpenter
Carpenter, who has stood heads and should above all others. While Romero created the Zombie genre and perhaps all of the great films in it, Carpenter has had a more varied career, scaring audiences with serial killers, aliens, haunted cars, and even Satan Himself. Together they are truly horror royalty and deserving of all the acclaim they have been given over the years.

Carpenter, despite his legendary status, has been largely absent from the big screen for almost a decade. However for the true Master of Horror that long slumber was simply the prelude to an onslaught of horror that few could imagine. With one film, ‘The Ward’ already in the can and a half dozen more in development, Carpenter is truly back and ready to scare. Now his next project has been announced and typical of his early days, it will be outside the mainstream. The recently announced ‘Fangland’ will put the director front and centre as he tackles a genre, and a monster, that Hollywood has avoided for a very long time. Finally, we will see vampires on the big screen.hilary swank

“We are pleased as punch to announce that John Carpenter will be back behind the director’s chair to finally direct Fangland. This project started a number of years ago but we have finally gotten the go ahead and very soon we will see this movies, and vampires, on the big screen,” said a perky spokesperson. “The movie is based on a 2007 novel by a dude, a guy who’s truly a dude, named John Marks. Basically the story is about a reporter who travels to Romania to interview an arms dealer who turns out to be a vampire. It’s totally a modern-day ‘Dracula’ and will be totally awesome. You know you can’t wait. Thanks for your attention. Out.”

The film is likely to be released next year. Hilary Swank will star.

“As a casual horror fan I normally wouldn’t get excited about a story like this but even I know John Carpenter. I mean ‘The Thing’, ‘Christine’, the thing movie
Escape from New York’, ‘Halloween’. The guy is a total legend not just in horror but in movies in general. It’s great to see a real legend back doing what he does best,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “The other really exciting thing is seeing vampires on the big screen. I remember reading ‘Dracula’ in my teens and though that it would be a great movie but no one ever seemed interested in making it. The whole vampire monster thing is such a cool idea. Hopefully this will inspire other people to make their own vampire movies. Hollywood people know a good thing when they see it.”bram stoker

The original novel ‘Dracula’ was published in 1897 and was well-regarded in its time but has not aged well.

“It makes sense that they are updating the story. The novel started off great, really creepy and intriguing but then it degrades into a chase story, a kind of 19th century John Grisham novel. Plus all those old clothes and stuff would turn people off. I have a feeling that teens in particular will like vampires so it’s a good idea to try and appeal to them with a more modern feel,” continued Temple. “This movie could kick start a whole new interest in the monsters and hopefully in Carpenter’s career. It’s taken him a long time but obviously he was just waiting for his time to strike, or rise from the dead in this case.”

One of the traits of vampires is that they are the living dead and rest in coffins, much like the dead.
