WESLEY SNIPES AT THE BOILING POINT AS JAIL TIME APPROACHES

July 27 2010

Atlanta, GA – In the 1980’s the realities of Hollywood were pretty bleak for people of certain ethnic dispositions. True there were roles for sidekicks and criminals, but there were very few leading men of colour. Through the nineties that would change with the stepin fetchit
success of Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Jaime Foxx, and Samuel L. Jackson whose success paved the way for colour blind casting. While that success is no doubt welcome for younger players, those people who laid the groundwork by never getting their shot still had to suffer.

Wesley Snipes was a kind of intermittent type of actor. In the early part of his career he was resigned to small and stereotyped roles but eventually gained success in the big leagues. Though he never achieved the success of other black actors in the decade, Snipes was undoubtedly a leading man even if it was in smaller films. His success in that decade was perhaps the greatest that a black man had ever achieved up until that point. Part action star, part dramatic leading, part comedian virtually all roles were made available to him and for a while he knocked them out of the park. As often happens Snipes eventually fell on hard times. His movies started to fail and his personal life, in the form of tax evasion charges, took over his public persona. Now the actor stands waiting to exhale as prison time approaches.wesley snipes mug shot

“Wes still believes firmly that he is in the right to do what he did and his imprisonment represents an unlawful attack on an individual. That said, he has a family and he realizes that this fight may not be winnable and though he is upset he’s ready to go,” said Snipes insider. “Wes is not used to losing. Just look at his movies. He learned a long time ago that you always bet on black and even though it hasn’t worked out this time, he knows he’ll be back. He always comes back.”

Snipes is facing three years in prison which will likely be served in a major league prison.

“When you look at the history of black people in Hollywood you realize that Snipes has
a really significant place. Though he never had huge blockbuster success, he still had a wesley snipes blade
great deal of fun in a game that he would ordinarily have been pushed out of. Unfortunately this won’t be an easy stint, no one night stand. This is the real deal and he’s going to have to serve his time before he can get back on the Hollywood money train,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “The really interesting thing will be to watch when he comes out. He’s still reasonably young but he has already been out of the spotlight for a number of years already and fans may outgrow him by the time he’s able to come back. Hopefully there will be a bright rising sun there for him but we will have to wait and see.”

Despite his government protests Snipes has stated he is still dedicated to the fan inside him that made him want to be an actor in the first place.wesley snipes demolition man

“He’s sitting here down in the delta, well close anyway, wondering what might be waiting for him on the other side. He’s putting on a good face but I think the reality will start to sink in very quickly. We wouldn’t want to see him selling houses or doing demolition, man that would be bizarre,” continued Temple. “Snipes has always been one of those guys to walk the blade and now he’s finally fallen off. Hopefully he will be able to get back on his feet and just play it to the bone this time around.”

Snipes is currently on bail. U.S. Marshals in Georgia have been alerted to the slight possibility that he might flee.
