LEA THOMPSON LOOKING TO GO BACK IN TIME WITH DELOREAN PURCHASE
October 13 2010
Hollywood, CA – Success comes and goes. It’s the nature of life. We surge, we dip, we surge again and then, well there’s no pattern and no promise. Life goes up and down, plans falter, the randomness of real life ultimately undoes the best laid plans of
mice and men. This truth is, unfortunately, something most people only learn later in life when their plans and designs on life have already gone astray, when they have already exhausted years worth of energy trying to swim upstream.
That lesson is something that affects all people even the wealthy and famous, something actress Lea Thompson learned the hard way. To look at the first decade of her career one would have thought there was nothing but upward potential. Starring in big movies like the ‘Back to the Future’ films and cult phenomena’s like ‘Spacecamp’, Red Dawn’, and ‘Some Kind of Wonderful’ long term success seemed inevitable, and then it all just stopped. By the start of the 1990’s Thompson had been reduced to supporting roles in middling movies and then in movies no one
saw. Outside a marginally successful run in the TV show ‘Caroline in the City’, Thompson has been largely absent from the industry that has driven her life, something she hopes to change with the recent purchase of a DeLorean DMC-12 which she hopes will help correct things that went awry.
“Both of her kids are in their teens and really don’t need her as much anymore and even though she’s had a number of projects recently the actual amount of time spent on set is limited which is giving her all this free time. Lea has a lot of time on her hands of late and she started to think about her life and things she would have liked to have changed,” said an insider. “It was actually about a year ago that she caught the first movie on TV and she realized that she could do a lot of great things if she had one of those machines and that has compelled her ever since.”
Thompson has not decided on a time at which to arrive as yet but it’s believed likely that she will target the period before reading the script for the Dennis the Menace movie.
“Look, she loves her life. She loves her kids and her husband and she doesn’t want to change that. She looks at it though and she really doesn’t see any reason why she couldn’t have had a career like Julia Roberts and she wants to change that aspect of her life,” continued the insider. “She didn’t fall off her toilet and have some moment of revelation or anything. She just saw the flux capacitor in a new way and decided that she could actually build one. Now that she has the DeLorean she is well on her way to making this thing come true and she is very excited.”
No DeLorean model came equipped with flux capacitors as a standard and the company went out of business before the release of ‘Back to the Future’.
“I sincerely doubt that much will change. Julia Roberts always had a kind of leading lady charisma even if time has left her behind. Thompson though was always the girlfriend and now the wife or mother. She was nice and sweet but didn’t have that extra level of charisma and poor choices weren’t going to affect that one way or the other,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “She had great deal of success early on and that has translated to a career. Perhaps it isn’t the career she dreamt of but she’s gotten work and it’s allowed her to survive as an actor which unto itself is pretty rare. This idea of messing with the past, well it could be a bad idea. Maybe she should go back and watch the second movie to see how badly things could go, not just for her but for everyone.”
Christopher Lloyd has apparently been calling Thompson since hearing about the purchase but to no avail.
