ROB SCHNEIDER’S MORTAGE PAYMENTS MAKE A COMEBACK AFTER ACTOR LANDS TV PILOT
February 6 2011
Los Angeles, CA – October 11, 1975. On the surface that day was nothing special, a Saturday like every other Saturday that had come before. That day though was different, it marked a paradigm shift in the history of entertainment after which
nothing would be the same. That day was the premiere of ‘Saturday Night Live’, a show which very quickly would come to redefine comedy and become a springboard for the careers of many of the most popular entertainers the last four decades.
There is little doubt that the careers of people such as Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler have redefined popular comedy and made millions, even billions, of dollars for a lot of people. Their success also helped launch successful careers for others, radically reforming the course of popular film and television throughout the 1980’s and beyond, all because of that little show and that now auspicious day in the Fall of 1975. Of course, for every great career that show has spawned, there have been ten more broken dreams, careers that may have started and stalled, or ones that simply went nowhere after appearing on the show. One of the more prominent members of the cast in the 1990’s, Rob Schneider, has most certainly had one of those up and down careers,
never truly breaking through and never getting his own compilation video. However, Schneider has stayed mostly busy in cameos and lower rent films, and now with a new TV pilot on the horizon may finally be able to catch that elusive star, and catch up on delinquent mortgage payments.
“Rob is very excited about the pilot. It revolves around a single man who marries into a Mexican-America family who really don’t like him, and the laughs ensue from there,” said a spokesperson for the actor. “We all feel that this is a great platform for Rob and that people will enjoy the mismatched hilarity inherent in the show. We are very eager to make this fly.”
Schneider hasn’t been on TV since 1997’s ‘Men Behaving Badly’ and hasn’t made a mortgage payment since October.
“Being on ‘Saturday Night Live’ never did ensure a long and successful career. I mean did Laraine Newman or Don Novello become huge stars? Did Yvonne Hudson redefine comedy? Of course not, over the course of the show hundreds of players came and went and only a handful were able to break out, and even those have had limited careers for the most part,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “True Adam Sandler and Bill Murray have persisted, even through dull periods, but no one is casting Mike Myers or Dan Aykroyd in blockbusters anymore. That’s the momentum of stardom no matter where you come from. That has been the reality for Schneider as well.”
Schneider did appear in the hit ‘Grown Ups’ over the summer as a part of the contractual obligation to appear in every other Adam Sandler movie.
“There was a period there where it looked like Schneider may buck the odds and actually become a star but unfortunately his physical appearance and his relatively limited comedy skills made it difficult to build a career in comedy. Those are the breaks sometimes,” continued Temple. “TV makes more sense for him I guess. I mean you don’t have to pay for TV and so the standards and expectations are a little lower and that is perfect for him. Hopefully the show gets picked up and he gets what he’s worked so hard for, and hopefully the bank gets their money. They deserve that at the very least.”
Schneider has reportedly asked good friend Adam Sandler for a loan, again, which has been a problem in the past.
