BALE, LEDGER TO RETURN FOR BATMAN THREEQUEL

December 14 2008

Hollywood, CA – With the gonzo box office success of The Dark Knight there was of course no doubt that there would be another film to come. While director and writer Christopher Nolan has been coy about his plans for the next instalment in the series, the stars of The Dark Knight have confirmed that they are indeed interested in returning, should Nolan be around to direct.the joker in the dark knight

Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and surprisingly Heath Ledger have all expressed their interest in returning to the box office bat-stravaganza. Ledger, who was reported to have died of a drug overdose in January but has been the subject of numerous sightings, was always the wild card in the bat-cast.

“Heath is a tremendously talented actor and it was an honour to work with him. The thought of returning to the series without him as the joker would be difficult at best,” said Christian Bale. “Heath was, is, a friend whom I care for very much. I can’t imagine anyone else playing the Joker but him.”heath ledger and christian bale in the dark knight

During the release of The Dark Knight last summer there were rampant rumours that Ledger had not actually been killed, but had instead faked his death as a publicity stunt for the picture. At first dismissed, repeated sightings of a man in joker get up throughout the Southern California area seemed to confirm the suspicions.

“Heath was totally dedicated to the character and gave himself over to the Joker fully so I would be surprised if he is indeed alive that he wouldn’t want to be in the next film,” continued Bale. “I haven’t spoken to him so don’t ask, but I saw how into the role he was. I thought around Halloween that i spotted him a few times, but that was probably someone else. I’m only going on instinct and on the man I know, I think he’ll be back.”

We attempted to contact Ledger’s agency for comment but they had gone out of business. Calls to his family were also unanswered.

Among those most definitely not returning for the next instalment will be Dark Knight stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and Aaron Eckhart. Gyllenhaal’s Rachel Dawes and Eckhart’s Harvey “Two-Face” Dent were both killed in the summer blockbuster.body out of grave

“There has been a lot of talk about both characters returning for the next film. Let me say this very clearly; we have made no firm decisions about the plot line of the next film but both Rachel and Harvey were killed in the last movie and will not be returning. This is not a soap opera, those characters died and it would be silly to try and bring them back,” said director Nolan. “We appreciate the fan’s enthusiasm but our Batman lives in the real world, not the fantasy world where people come back from the dead. I will not comment on any casting talk until we have a script hammered out. We love all our actors but I can assure you that no one is coming back from beyond the grave to appear in the next movie.”

Batman is expected dig up more box office gold in 2010.
