New York, NY – With the shocking deaths of two of America’s great performers in as many days, many are left wondering who might be next. After all, these things tend to come in threes. Spike Lee, who yesterday sparked a furor with his comments over Bernie Mac’s death, seems to think he has the answer, and it’s an old friend.
“Someone sent me this picture and I was just blown away by it,” said the director. “And they are standing in order too. I’ve already called Sam and he assured me that everything was alright with him, but I’m scared.”
The picture in question was pulled from Isaac Hayes official website. Though most would look at it as merely a creepy coincidence, Lee, who is as famous for his conspiracies as he is for his movies, sees it as something far more insidious.
“Guess they didn’t pull the picture down in time, now we know what’s going on. They are systematically taking out prominent black men and it must be stopped.”
Lee did not elaborate on who he thought ‘they’ might be, nor did he comment on the fact that the photograph was taken from Hayes’ own website, though he did insinuate that the connection to Scientology might have played a factor.
Jackson, who appeared in Lee’s films ‘School Daze’, ‘Mo Better Blues’, ‘Jungle Fever’, and the classic ‘Do the Right Thing’ before falling out with the director, had no comment on Lee’s statement.
Representatives for the actor said “Samuel would like to send his heart felt wishes out to the families of both Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes. He considered both men friends and great entertainers and will miss them dearly. He wishes family and friends of both men his best.”
Privately, a source told us that Lee and Jackson hadn’t spoken in years and that there “is no chance in hell” that the director even has Jackson’s phone number. The falling out stemmed from statements regarding Jackson’s work in Quentin Tarantino films.
“Sam is next, and I won’t stand by while they destroy the powerful black man in America,” continued Lee. “If they kill him, they are going to get the full wrath of Spike comin’ down on their asses.” Again, he did not elaborate on who would be receiving the brunt of his assault, nor what form the action would take.
Lee’s newest film ‘Miracle at St. Anna’ comes out later this year.
