Hollywood, CA – Confirming persistent rumours, Dark Knight star Heath Ledger was spotted at a California skateboard park this weekend, nearly seven months after his reported death of an accidental drug overdose.
The actor was photographed dressed in his full ‘Joker’ costume and make up performing kickflips and ollies with a group of local boarders. It wasn’t until a paparazzi stumbled across the scene and realized that the costumed man was indeed Ledger that the other skaters recognized him as well. Ledger made a hasty retreat after the photograph was taken.
“We just thought the guy was a big Batman fan. Figured he’d be hot in all those clothes. Guess he just didn’t want to be recognized,” said one of the teens at the park. “Guy’s got some skills though, even for an old dude. He’s really good for a dead guy.”
The photographer was unable to keep up with the ‘Brokeback Mountain’ star after snapping to picture, but is sure it was the actor.
“He ran off yelling and I could tell it was his voice. He sounded just like he did in the movie.” The photographer stated that Ledger did use his now famous line from the newest Batman film. “He did yell why so serious as he skated away. It was then that I knew.”
While speculation over the actor’s death has been running rampant of late, little evidence existed to show that Ledger was indeed alive. Rumours that his death had been staged as a marketing ploy were the most popular, but it appears that the darkest of the speculations might have come to pass.
“Everyone said that he was totally wrapped up in the role of the Joker, and it seems like he has been totally consumed by the performance,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “His dedication to his craft is admirable, but obviously he has gone over the deep end. Of course at this stage he appears to be just dressing as the character. It’s going to be a problem if he starts taking on other characteristics of the Joker persona.”
We put that question to Los Angeles police, who had not seen the photograph in question. “If that is indeed the case then we do need to keep an eye out for him. From the sound of it he is a disturbed young man and exactly what we don’t need in this city is some kind of lunatic super criminal. This is the real world; there is no Batman to swing in to rescue the city. We’ll keep track of the situation.”
Calls to Warner Brothers and to Ledger’s representatives went unanswered. Scrape News also tried shining a spotlight into the sky and received no response.
“This is either a brilliant marketing ploy or a very, very sad case,” continued Temple. “Either way, the kid deserves an Oscar. Hopefully he’ll show up to accept it.”
Update 1: we have been informed by a number of readers that the photograph pictured above is actually a falsification. While we vetted this story with a number of sources, the sheer volume of responses neccessitates a review of the case. Please stay tuned.
