RINGO STARR TOO BUSY FOR AUTOGRAPHS; FANS ASK WHAT WITH

October 14 2008

London, U.K. – “Please do not send fan mail to any address you have," said Ringo Starr in an interview with the BBC. "Nothing will be signed after the 20th of October. If that is the date on the envelope, it's gonna be tossed.”

The former Beatle drummer claimed that he is too busy to continue signing autographs for fans, a statement that is coming as a bit of a shock to his fans. The shock is not so much because of the brazen way the drummer has dismissed his fans, but in the fact that he is busy.ringo starr peace

“Starr is widely considered the least of the Fab Four but has remained very active in his post Beatle’s career,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. The drummer released a solo album earlier this year and just completed a tour of North America. “That said I have never heard of a major star making this kind of statement to his fans. There are musicians out there with very active careers and they don’t say anything like that. It seems that Starr is trying to relinquish what little credibility he had for whatever reason. Paul McCartney is a billionaire and he has never said anything like this. Maybe he feels his reputation is bullet proof.”

For the majority of fans the message comes as a kick in the teeth after their long years of support, most of which was done in the face of ridicule from friends and fellow music lovers.the beatles

“Most Beatle’s fans choose one of three as their favourite; John Lennon, Paul McCartney, or George Harrison. Ringo is the Hyundai in a group of Bentley’s and he really should continue to show his appreciation for them,” continued Temple. “From Britney Spears to Creed, moderately talented musical artists the world over have looked to Ringo as the guru in how to maintain a loyal fan base without having the goods to back it up. It may be that he has started to see himself like his Beatle’s band mates; as someone important. That simply isn’t the case with Starr. My main thought is does he need to spend that much time working at his age? Is he unable to afford a stamp with his signature? If that’s the case then we should really just feel sympathy for the guy, well more than we already do. It must be hard to be part of a legendary band and have almost no respect.”

The rocker did not give a reason for cutting off autographs for his fans and did not indicate whether or not this would apply to personal meetings or simply to pieces sent to his management team.

Paul McCartney, the only other living Beatle, could not be reached for comment. His aides stated that he was busy being Paul McCartney.
