Hollywood, CA – The1980’s was a decade that changed the world. The fall of Soviet Union happened in the eighties, so did Iran Contra. The beginning of major conflicts that persist today, such as Iraq and Islamic terrorism started in the eighties. The nuclear power plant at Chernobyl melted down and the worst space age disaster occurred when the Challenger shuttle exploded.
All these events though pale in comparison to the cultural shift that occurred through the decade. The rise of videogames, the shift from punk to boy bands, and the exploding influence of movies and television. And while we are no far removed from that decade one question has persisted amongst all others, and it appears that question will now be answered.
“Who’s the Boss” was one of the most popular shows of the decade. With multiple Emmy and Golden Globe wins, the show about the male housekeeper and the domineering workaholic woman who employed him captured the hearts of millions. The world watched as they struggled through the ups and downs of life, death, romance, and the difficulties of raising children but were never rewarded with an answer to the question the series title brought to mind but with current rumours abound a new theatrical film will finally remove that question mark from people’s minds.
“Inevitably people try to come up with an answer when they are being asked a question and every Monday night for eight years people tried to resolve this one. Hopefully this movie will bring more answers than questions, but we will see,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “It’s one of those things that sticks in your head and you just want it resolved. Sure it’s not like Amelia Earhart or the reason for existence, but it’s still got staying power. As long as the show runs in syndication I expect it’s going to be something people ask of themselves. There are just so many possibilities.”
With the rumour mill still grinding no firm information has been issued. It appears that all of the major players from the original cast will be returning with Danny ‘Jonathan’ Pintauro so far being the lone holdout.
“He hasn’t worked a whole lot since the series ended so one would hope that his lack of money coupled with a sense of nostalgia will bring him to the negotiating table. It would be a shame to lose the answer to this question when we are so close,” continued Temple. “Plus Katherine Helmond is 80 years old so she’ll be dead soon. They can’t delay it too long.”
It is not clear if original series creators Martin Cohan or Blake Hunter, who have been absent from the Hollywood scene since the series ended, will be returning for the film.
“If this happens we really have two modern sitcoms to thank. ‘Family Guy’ had an entire episode that revolved around the series and that brought the question back to people’s minds. Judith Light has had a lot of success with ‘Ugly Betty’ which no doubt makes her a more marketable presence,” continued Temple. “Here’s to hoping that not only will we have an answer, but that everyone will be happy with it. I can’t think of anything worse than the answer dividing fans of the show. The filmmakers will have to be careful, they are on very treacherous ground. Of course sometimes it's the question that's important, not the answer.”
Odds makers in Las Vegas have already begun taking bets on the outcome with stars Tony Danza and Light both leading at 4:1, Helmond at 10:1, Alyssa Milano at 20:1, and Pintauro a distant 50:1.
“Sure this may not give us any long lasting or fundamental answers to the questions life brings, but it’s one less thing people need to worry about,” concluded Temple. “After this we will be free to ponder issues like the existence of God and the nature of the soul in peace. My bet is going on Mona, either that or some outside entity, some shady malignant housekeeping conglomerate. There was always something deeper going on there.”
So far no date for the answer has been set.
