DOCTOR WHO BETRAYED BIN LADEN FINALLY SPEAKS OUT
September 11 2012
Peshawar, Pakistan – For as much attention as Seal Team Six has received, for as many accolades as President Obama has claimed, there are many people who were actively involved in the killing of Osama bin Laden who simply have not received much attention at all but without whom the terrorist leader would still be alive today.
One of those people is Shakil Afridi, a doctor who apparently quite accidentally helped lead U.S. intelligence forces to the location where bin Laden was hiding, information that of course led to the raid and the eventual death of the Al Qaeda leader
It’s fitting, perhaps, that the man who most directly led to the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden is finally speaking out on the anniversary of 9/11. It’s not that Afridi has been unknown of course, he is the doctor who has been jailed by Pakistani officials who are still mega-embarrassed about the whole bin Laden thing, but his jailhouse interview with Fox News has finally allowed the doctor to tell the story in his own words, to explain exactly why he betrayed the benefactor bin Laden to foreign powers who were clearly bent on killing him.
“I didn’t know about a specific target apart from the work I was given to do. The house was famous for its name, Waziristan House. I was aware that some terrorists were residing in that compound, but I didn’t know whom. I was shocked. I didn’t believe I was associated in his killing,” said Afridi who also droned on and on and on about his ill treatment at the hands of Pakistani intelligence, the ISI.
That organization was hit particularly hard by criticism from the West because they likely helped shield bin Laden, knowing where he was the whole time.
Afridi still claims to just be an innocent doctor and that he has been imprisoned unfairly which some people kind of buy, though obviously not the Pakistanis who are the only important people in the equation.
“I have no doubt that at least in the beginning Afridi had no idea what was going on and that he was leading American forces to the location of the most feared terrorist leader on the planet. I mean that’s kind of how intelligence works, they keep it a secret and don’t give details to assets on the ground. That would be kind of dumb,” said Scrape TV Terrorism analyst Doug Davids. “He was probably involved, at least in the early days, without his knowledge but it really doesn’t matter what his intentions were. What’s important is that he led the Americans to bin Laden. It’s results that matter.”
A number of other people helped lead the U.S. to bin Laden but it was Afridi’s vaccination program that really did the trick.
“I would say though that despite all the torture he has endured he is probably safer in prison than he would be on the outside. The ISI is just embarrassed by the whole bin Laden thing, embarrassed about being caught obviously, but Al Qaeda is angry and angry terrorists are usually pretty killy terrorists,” continued Davids. “It sucks that all the other people who helped kill bin Laden are heroes and he is in prison but he did do the betrayal after all. You can never really trust a guy like that, not really, and so of course the U.S. has just ditched him. Well, they also got in some trouble the last time they went after someone in Pakistan and that’s something they might be eager to repeat.”
It’s not believed that U.S. officials have even considered a mission to free Afridi.
