EARLY LETTERS SHOW JOSEPH GOEBBELS MAY HAVE BEEN A JERK HIS WHOLE LIFE

New Haven, CT – There really isn’t anyone within the Nazi hierarchy who has, over the years, elicited any kind of real sympathy or understanding. Even people like Claus von Stauffenberg, who tried to assassinate Hitler, has been permanently tainted by his association with the regime. The Nazis are, now and likely forever, the great villains of history.
The truth of who the people who made up the Nazi elite is of course far more complex and arguably interesting than the core line, the simple notion that they are bad guys who did evil things to people, but is certainly not the line that most people like to take up. It’s much more desirable to paint them as hate filled monsters which at least some of them may well have been.
In particular it appears, from a series of newly discovered letters, that propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels may have been an anti-Semitic jerk well before meeting Hitler and that the Nazi machine was simply a good outlet for his behaviour. In fact, Goebbels may well have been about the biggest jerk of them all in the early days, perhaps giving some understanding of why he was such a bad dude later in life.
“It sums up the formative years of the number two man in the Third Reich, who was responsible for motivating the masses in Germany to back Hitler,” said Bill Panagopulos, the president of Alexander Historical Auctions which plans to auction the letters. “In my opinion, it shows how this rather simple, shy and love-struck college student really just became radicalized.”
Panagopulos has already been accused of hyping up the letters in order to guarantee a better price.
It’s not clear why the letters have not been given to a museum and been subject to serious historical analysis which could better detail Goebbels bad attitude.
“Clearly Goebbels was a key component in the Nazi machine. He is the one who really made much of what happened happen and without him it is possible that the Nazis never would have risen to power and killed so many people. He was as essential to the cause as any other person,” said Scrape TV Historical analyst Lars Luger. “It make some sense, then, considering what he did and enabled that he was kind of a jerk in his earlier days. I mean it’s comfortable to think that maybe he was a nice boy who was turned by the evil power of Hitler but it’s clear that he was bad from the start. It makes it very hard to defend him given this.”
It’s not clear who has actually tried to defend Goebbels aside from fellow Nazis.
“Clearly this guy, and likely all of them, weren’t just turned into evil monsters that killed millions of people over the years. It seems that this was something they really worked to accomplish and isn’t something they just kind of fell into. It’s certainly an interesting document,” continued Luger. “Clearly this was a man determined to do some kind of ill to the world. I don’t think that looking at these letters you could have imagined that he would have been so responsible for killing 15 million people and starting a world war but still it was clear he was no good, this guy, no good at all for a long time.”
Goebbels has no descendents to challenge the perception of the documents because he killed himself, his wife, and his six children with cyanide when it was clear they had lost the war.
