London, U.K. – The Monarchy in the United Kingdom is old. In some ways that is a good thing, it lends tradition and elegance to the nation and to the other realms the Royal Family oversees. Old, though, does not always mean regal and in the case of that particular family has increasingly meant distant and out of touch.
The Queen, try as she might, simply has not been able to catch up to the modern age. Prince Charles constantly seems to be about fifty years behind everyone else. The task of modernization, then, had to fall to the next generation if the monarchy was to survive. Princes William and Harry and of course whatever brides they have taken.
That seemed to be going swimmingly with William’s choice of bride, Kate Middleton, who seemed a bright spark, a glowing future consort of the King. Unfortunately now she has been caught up in a scandal after a French newspaper published a series of topless picture of Middleton, picture published just weeks after her brother-in-law Harry was caught in his own nude picture scandal. Those incidents have cast much embarrassment on the Royals but of course are thoroughly modern because just about every famous person in the modern era has nude pictures in the internet.
“Their royal highnesses had every expectation of privacy in the remote house. It is unthinkable that anyone should take such photographs, let alone publish them,” said the Royal family in a statement. “Officials acting on behalf of their royal highnesses are consulting with lawyers to consider what options may be available to the Duke and Duchess. The incident is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of Diana, Princess of Wales.”
Diana was of course considered the first modern princess and evoking her name will undoubtedly help turn the public to the Royal view of things.
Middleton apparently looked quite firm in the pictures which were apparently taken from a public road.
“This is certainly an embarrassing thing considering the status Middleton holds. Harry is one thing but he is just a member of the family. He will not be residing in Buckingham Palace someday and that that is a big difference between him and Middleton, a big difference,” said Scrape TV International analyst Gustav Hander. “Of course Kate was with her husband and it was all pretty innocent. Harry was with women he didn’t know in a room full of cocaine. That’s probably worse but of course he is a guy and can get away with a lot more than she can in the end.”
Harry has also gone to Afghanistan to kill people for his nation which is something Middleton is unlikely to do on her current trip to Malaysia.
“They really shouldn’t get too bent out of shape over this because they risk blowing it up much bigger than it really needs to be. Maybe if she had saggy boobs or extra nipples it would be an issue but that isn’t the case. Everyone has naked pictures, it’s thoroughly modern,” continued Hander. “This is hardly the worst thing to happen to the nation. That would probably have to be Nazi Germany. This isn’t as bad as Nazi Germany, not by a long shot. The Nazis were worse than photographers.”
Kate Middleton has not commented yet but has managed to keep her kit on in public since.
