RUSSIA WARNS THAT NORTH KOREAN SITUATION COULD SPIRAL, LIKE DUH
March 29 2013
Moscow, Russia – Anytime there are threats against global security, particularly in this interconnected world, everyone has to pay attention. While there are certainly conflicts that are isolated, ones that can remain contained to a small part of the globe, there are bigger ones and increasingly it appears that North Korea is becoming one of those.
With increasingly bellicose threats, and even real plans, coming from the isolated nation what was once seen as a kind of silly exercise, as a barking dog, has become troublesome and potentially even problematic. That increasing concern is not simply an issue for the people being threatened but for the entire world, even for Russia which often doesn’t worry about other people’s business.
Russian officials have started to take a keen interest in the going-ons in North Korea and now started to issue warnings, directed against someone one assumes, that the situation could easily spiral out of control. It’s not clear if Russia has made those warnings to North Korea, a country with which it has dealings, which would be the only warning that would really matter because they are the ones causing all the trouble.
“The situation could slip toward the spiral of a vicious circle,” said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to no one in particular.
It’s not clear if perhaps, just perhaps, Russia just kind of wanted to get in on the ground floor and say something rather than just sit back and do nothing.
The United States has vaguely responded to the ongoing North Korea threats by showing just how much ability they have to destroy the little country, something which seems to have only aggravated the North even more for some reason.
“Clearly the situation has gotten a little more serious than people ever believed it was going to get. It’s weird that that has happened because typically North Korea backs down after a little while, owing to the fact that they really can’t back up a single thing they say, but that just has not happened in this situation for some reason,” said Scrape TV International Conflict analyst Mario Martinez. “It’s weird, no doubt about it, and I guess other countries have taken note of that. I mean Russia does involve itself all the time, so that’s not really unexpected, but they do usually stay out of these things with North Korea because it’s usually a waste of time. Not this time, though, it appears.”
It’s not clear exactly what kind of ties Russia has with North Korea or if they can wield any kind of influence at all.
“I’m not really sure where these comments were directed. I mean the United States is responding, very gently actually, to ridiculous threats from the North. They are actually being pretty calm and rational about it I would argue considering the level of rhetoric and the type of threats that are happening,” continued Martinez. “One has to assume that those comments are being directed towards North Korea but you never know with those Russians, They don’t always think like normal people. Actually they often don’t, it’s weird how they think. Hopefully they don’t just end up provoking things even more.”
It’s not clear if North Korea has heard the comments and, if so, what they could possibly make of them.
