FRANCE THROWN INTO CHAOS AFTER GIANT DINOSAUR FOOTPRINTS FOUND
October 9 2009
Lyon, France – High in the Jura Mountains of eastern France palaeontologists have uncovered a set of some of the largest dinosaur footprints ever uncovered. More than twenty of the prints were found on the 10 hectare site with each print measuring 1.5

metres in diameter. The prints are believed to be of a large sauropod which died out late in the Jurassic period, about 150 million years ago. Despite that, word of the find has sent the streets of France in chaos as terrified residents of the area scramble to find cover from the long dead beast.
Early reports of trouble began early Thursday morning with sporadic rioting occurring across the rural areas of the country. By the afternoon word had spread to Lyon, the capital of the Rhône-Alpes region, spurring further chaos, looting, and general panic. Government officials have pleaded for calm throughout the region,
trying to assure people that the dinosaur footprints are from a long extinct species and that no dinosaurs are currently roaming the countryside but thus far their pleas have had little effect. Lyon officials have placed riot police at all major intersections, ready should the chaos spread any further.
“We need to have calm throughout the area. We are pleading with people to please return to your homes. There are no dinosaurs or any other large, extinct animals in the Jura Mountains or anywhere for that matter. Our scientists have assured us that the footprints found are fossilized and would have been made at least 150 million years ago,” said Lyon Mayor Gérard Collomb. “The rioting and looting that is taking place will not be tolerated. Please, return to your homes. We assure you that should giant extinct dinosaurs suddenly appear we will inform you and take appropriate action but that simply is not necessary at this time and likely will not be for the foreseeable future. For everyone’s safety please, return to your homes.”
Lyon has a metropolitan population of 4.4 million people, the majority of which have not been taken over by the panic and chaos currently gripping the city. Officials fear that a spread may be inevitable should the rioting continue into the weekend.
“I can tell you that the fighting and chaos in the city is really dire at the moment. Some of the smaller towns throughout the area and in the Franche-Comté region are totally embroiled in the chaos. It really doesn’t look good for the police and government but they need to control it fast before word starts to spread to the rest of the country,” said Scrape TV European Field correspondent Felipe Marceau. “Unfortunately I haven’t been able to see the chaos myself but from everything I’ve read on Twitter and Facebook it appears to be quite dire. Hopefully it will not spread outside the region because that would be really bad. The Swiss don’t normally panic but I’m sure even t he idea of a giant dinosaur stomping through their towns would send them fleeing in panic.”
Marceau was reporting from his hotel room in Berlin which thus far has not been affected by the panic in France.
“Dinosaurs are well and truly extinct. There are a few modern descendents and a few animals that have survived from that period but the bigger species did not survive and certainly are not roaming around in France,” said Scrape TV Zoology analyst Cambridge Walker. “Anything as large as a Sauropod would certainly be noticed visually and by the effect they would have on the environment. Those animals travelled in packs and could defoliate a tree in minutes. We would certainly be seeing the results of that at the very least so it is safe to assume that these footprints are indeed from an extinct species, meaning the panic in France is really quite irrational.”
The French have long been known for their fear of dinosaurs, which resulted in very low box office takes for the massive blockbuster Jurassic Park franchise.
