The agreement is a marks an extension of the continuing relation between the countries of the two continents, which began in the annexations of the 1800’s.
“We are very happy with this new agreement, it is a profound gesture on behalf of the African peoples,” said one of the leaders of the project, Hans Nilsson. “Throughout history, the African people have provided fantastic support to the people of Europe. From slavery, to virtually free supplies of gold, oil, and diamonds, and now this. The sacrifice of the African people has always meant fantastic living standards for us and we are more than pleased to continue this cooperation.”
African nations such as Sudan, Senegal, Niger, and Ethiopia will be the largest exporters and are the driving force behind this plan. The bulk of the supplies will come from poorer areas of the countries and will have little negative effect on the lives of the ruling elite.
“We are very happy with this agreement,” said spokesperson for the Senegalese government. “This affords the people of Europe with a whole new opportunity to live well. Longer showers, shorter work weeks, wider waistlines, these are all benefits for the European people. Our people are happy to give to our neighbours, just as they have for hundreds of years. They recognize the need for others to live in luxury even when it requires personal sacrifice. All peoples will benefit from this agreement.”
Exact numbers have not been released publicly, but the quantity of shipments is expected to increase over the next year and should reach maximum capacity by mid 2009. The principle recipient countries will be Switzerland, France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and the UK. The shipments will be targeted at the upper 3% of each country.
“It’s a fantastic thing really,” said Francois DePaul, one of the driving forces behind the project. “Those Africans are such terrific people. We must make sure to use as much of these goods as possible so that their efforts will not go to waste. If you’ll excuse me, I have an opera to get to.”
No word on whether or not other members of the Union will be receiving similar shipments or if other African nations will be contributing to the effort.
