GEORGIAN FORCES PULLING BACK TO ATLANTA

August 11 2008

Tbilisi, GeorgiaWith Russian tanks rumbling across the countryside, Georgian forces have been forced to withdraw from the disputed region of South Ossetia. The Russian forces though, appearing to sense victory in the long running dispute with the former Soviet Republic, have begun expanding their assault, prompting Georgian officials to contemplate a move to their American namesake.

“We call on the world to condemn these actions by the Russian military. This aggression against our country is disproportionate and unreasonable,” said the country’s President Mikheil Saakashvili. “We require help from the world to counter this unprovoked attack against our sovereignty.”

Already the official website for the President had been moved to servers in Atlanta after reported DDOS attacks from inside Russia. Atlanta based Tulip Systems Inc. volunteered to host the Presidential site, as well as the site for a prominent television station. (Associated Press)

“It’s our responsibility to protect freedom and to continue to show the world what is happening in Georgia,” said Georgian born CEO Nino Doijashvili. “We will provide any help that we can offer. As everyone knows we must keep the websites up and running. If the websites go down, everything is lost.”

Doijashvili went on to say that they were looking into arrangements to transport Government officials if needed to the Atlanta area. “He (the President) can sleep on my couch if that’s what we need to do.”

Though the move so far away may seem unreasonable to some, considering the country borders allies Azerbaijan and Turkey, there has been no more vocal a blind supporter of the Georgian plight as the United States.

"The Vice President told President Saakashvili that Russian aggression must not go unanswered, and that its continuation would have serious consequences for its relations with the United States, as well as the broader international community," spokesperson Lea Ann McBride said on Sunday. He made no comment on the possibility of housing the Georgian government should it become necessary. georgian website not found

One local resident spoke with Scrape News about the possible departure of the government. “Where do I go? Where do my children go? Where does my website go? It is very frightening that they have moved the website, as that is usually the first sign that something has changed. My children are crying, I have no electricity in my house, how am I supposed to change my DNS nameservers?”

Government officials had no comment on the possibility of a move, nor on what type of web service action they might provide for ordinary citizens. Russian officials equally had no comment on the reports of DDOS attacks, occupied as they were with real attacks.

US government officials did speak off the record with Scrape News. “The web is fundamental, just as important as our antagonizing of Russia. We’ll do whatever we can to keep both things going. Everyone knows you really don’t exist unless you’re on the web, and if the Georgians didn’t exist, well, we’d have no way to distract from other problems.”
