New York, NY – "American empire in the world is reaching the end of its road, and its next rulers must limit their interference to their own borders," President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a speech to the United Nations on Tuesday. "As long as the aggressors, because of their financial, political and propaganda powers, not only escape punishment, but even claim righteousness, and as long as wars are started and nations are enslaved in order to win votes in elections, not only will the problems of the global community remain unsolved, but they will be increasingly exacerbated."
The President is in New York for the United Nations general assembly. He also spoke to various news outlets including the Los Angeles Times and CNN. Topics he discussed ranged from the Iranian nuclear program, to the Palestinian conflict, to the upcoming US presidential election.
"The U.S. government has made a series of mistakes in the past few decades," Ahmadinejad told the Los Angeles Times. "The imposition on the U.S. economy of the years of heavy military engagement and involvement around the world ... the war in Iraq, for example. These are heavy costs imposed on the U.S. economy.”
The President also made a series of unprecedented interviews with non traditional news outlets such as E! and MTV.
“The decadence of western music is leading to the downfall of the American Empire. The West has become self indulgent and bloated and has spelled her own doom,” said Ahmadinejad on MTV’s Total Request Live. “I have personally taken up the violin. Not only is it an instrument of great beauty, it is only appropriate that I play as America burns.”
E! brought its heavy hitter to the interview with the Iranian President. Ryan Seacrest grilled the leader on such topics as international trade, relations with Israel, the war on terror, and his sightseeing plans while in the city.
“I will be visiting the slums of the city so that I may show my people how Americans truly live. I will expose your downtrodden and your indigent and allow the world to see the true America,” Ahmadinejad said. “I also want to see the met, and get one of those little Statue of Liberty hats, though just to show my people how fat and arrogant Americans are.” The leader also indicated that he would be stopping by Tom’s Restaurant which was made famous as the hangout for the gang from Seinfeld.
“I will show America for what it is, expose the lies that the media sends out to the world. I will also get a slice of New York pizza as well,”
When asked by Seacrest why he would be doing such quintessentially American things on his trip, the leader shrugged. “You only live once. When in Rome...”
