Birmingham, AL – The streets of Birmingham have been invaded by aliens. People from around the world have begun flocking the streets of this small Alabama town as October 14th draws ever closer in hopes of being the first to catch a glimpse of the UFO predicted to be appearing here by Australian channeler Blossom Goodchild. Despite a complete lack of credible evidence or any semblance of sanity, the prediction by the psychic has caused a furor in the paranormal community.
On August 1st Goodchild made the proclamation to her small group of followers that on October 14th members of The Federation of Light will appear in a massive spacecraft and remain for at least three days, proving once and for all that human being are not alone in the world. The prediction has brought believers of all kinds together in the hope that a kindly appearance is imminent.
While the majority of the world has remained oblivious or uninterested in the prediction, Goodchild and her ever increasing group of followers remain undaunted.
“I was asked to give out a message ... I gave that message out ...” wrote Goodchild on her blog. “it is beyond me where some people's minds reside and why they feel the need to be so viscious (sic).”
While no one in the political, scientific, or any other community is taking the claim seriously, many ancillary entities have benefited from the prediction and subsequent attention. Local business’s and hotels throughout Birmingham have reported record profits for the month of October. Sites such as UFOdigest.com have seen a massive boost in traffic and advertising revenue. No one perhaps has benefited more from the claim than has Goodchild herself, who has gone from an obscure predictor to a community celebrity in the span of only a few months.
“This was her break. This psychic from Australia that no one had heard of is now a major player, at least amongst that particular segment of the world,” said Scrape TV Media analyst Sarah Piper. “Her website has moved up something like 21 million places in Alexa ranking, and presumably ad revenue has done the same. Like any field, once you have a hit you have a shot. It will be interesting to see how she parlays this success into a long term career. The tricky thing about psychic prediction is that it is almost always wrong and people who make the predictions have to deal with the fallout from that and try to continue their career. This particular one may have gone a little too big though. There is such a thing as too much too soon. We will see what happens; I’m not going to make any predictions.”
While believers will no doubt alter the inevitable failure of aliens to suddenly appear to benefit their world view, one thing is for sure; there will be more predictions in the future.
“From Nostradamus to today, trying to predict the future has always had great currency. It’s one of the few industries that throughout time has always remained vital no matter the economic times, like Prostitution,” continued Temple. “One might argue that in dire times those two industries actually pick up. The advantage of predicting the future as a business is that you are never short of material and you can never go wrong playing to the lowest common denominator. I’d guess that prediction will be available business for a very long time. I’d also predict that there will be no aliens tomorrow but I guess we’ll see.”
