PRESIDENT OBAMA TO JOIN WITH XBOX TO BRING 360 DEGREES OF CHANGE

November 20 2008

Redmond, WA – Microsoft has announced that they will be entering into a new promotional campaign with the federal government once Barack Obama takes office. The company will be promoting the President-elect’s message of change to the younger set with the campaign ‘360 degrees of change’.barack obama on xbox 360

“We are thrilled to be working with the incoming government to bring the political message to young people. With the appeal that President-Elect Obama has with young people today we feel that we are on the precipice of real change. 360 degrees of change if you will,” said a spokesperson for Microsoft. “Teaming with the incoming administration will allow us to promote the important issues and involve young people in the political process. Many of our players cannot yet vote but they will soon be able to and it is important that they understand not only the issues in the country, but also the importance of being involved in the process. After his historic election win and our participation in that victory we feel we have come full circle.”

During his Presidential campaign, Obama ran advertisements in a number of online games. Many saw this as an acknowledgement of the growing youth movement, which the new administration hopes to capitalize on. xbox 360 logo

“The Xbox 360 is the perfect platform for us to join forces with. Video games are more and more the principle form of entertainment and communication between young people and it is essential that we include them in the arena they are comfortable in,” said a spokesperson for the President-Elect’s transition team. “This gives us a platform to engage young people like never before. We are very excited to be working with Microsoft on this project.”

While the immediate criticism of the plan revolves (so to speak) around the concerns about the federal government entering into a marketing agreement with a private company, others are starting to take notice of the issue of the message itself. master chief badass

“The major issue of course is that if you travel 360 degrees you end up in the same place you were in before. That makes the whole concept kind of an oxymoron, unless the Obama Presidency is going to be going about change in a totally new way,” said Scrape TV political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “You would think that the combined minds of the incoming President and Microsoft would have enough marketing and basic math skills to realize that they are talking about making a complete circle. To my way of thinking that really isn’t change, but they seem to know what they are doing.”

Of course not wanting to be left behind, Sony is also latching onto the political bandwagon and will be entering into an agreement with Arizona Senator John McCain. The Playstation 3 related campaign will focus on experience and leadership.koopa trooper

“Sony is the more experienced of the two companies so teaming with McCain seems to be a little more natural of a match. Of course I don’t see what they could possibly have to promote. He did lose after all,” said Scrape TV Gaming analyst Graeme Hawthorne. “What will be interesting to see is whether or not Nintendo will respond. Probably not, there aren’t any Koopa Troopers in Washington.”

We attempted to contact both Microsoft and the Obama team to inquire about the discrepancy in the new campaign message but our calls were passed from person to person.

“It will be interesting to see where this goes. With the 360 Microsoft essentially made the same machine that they had the last time around albeit with a little more power. If that’s what the Obama Presidency plans to do then the country could be in for a shock,” continued Hawthorne. “Just like gamers, the American public is going to find themselves spinning in circles and ending up in the same place. We shall see.”
