ROMNEY FINALLY GETS PEOPLE TO KIND OF POSSIBLY MAYBE LIKE HIM
October 19 2012
Washington, D.C. – Despite a strong showing in the last debate, a great deal of momentum has stayed away from President Obama and with Mitt Romney. That is, considering how close the election is, bad news for the Obama campaign but of course there are many cards still in play.
For Romney the turnaround has been remarkable, to say the least. Counted down and out, Romney has been able to surge back in ways that no one could have imagined, giving him a real shot at winning the Presidency which is something no one felt, even a few weeks ago, was really a possibility.
There are of course many hurdles for Romney to cross before winning including navigating the complex and probably unfair Electoral College system which, most analysts agree, still very much favours Obama. That, though, is something Romney may well be able to do in the last couple of weeks especially as his numbers continue to trend upwards, including his favorability numbers which for the first time have topped Obama, showing that some people actually kind of like him at least a little bit.
Those numbers are not by any stretch a slam dunk for Romney, only edging out Obama by a single percentage point, and have absolutely nothing to do with whether or not he will be able to gain and electoral victory, but at least people aren’t indifferent to him anymore which is something he has not had before.
Multiple polls placed Romney ahead of Obama which shows that it is indeed not a dream, the people kind of like him after all.
It’s not clear how long that like will last for Romney or if it’s enough to power him to victory but we will see.
“Clearly things have changed pretty dramatically for both candidates which is really kind of weird because debates usually don’t change much at all but it appears that this one did, or that one, this most recent one certainly did not, at least not dramatically. It may have slowed the decline of Obama but certainly didn’t reverse things for him,” said Scrape TV Political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “Clearly things are looking good for Romney and it has to feel great that people are actually kind of warming to him. Obviously not everyone has yet and that is unlikely even if he was a big giant teddy bear, which is isn’t, but this is at least something and a totally unique experience for him to be sure.”
Romney of course wasn’t even really liked by mist of his own party for a long time.
“I would imagine that a lot of this has to do with the debate but also a lot has to do with people, especially Republicans now seeing they might have a shot, actually responding to these polls with some passion. What the recent surge has more than anything is engaged Republican voters, not necessarily made more, and they certainly needed that,” continued Kinsey. “Again, the advantage is still very much in Obama’s corner right now for a whole host of reasons and it is entirely possible that Romney could actually be more popular and win the popular vote and still lose, probable actually when you look at all the numbers, but who knows what will happen with all this sudden good will, anything possibly.”
Romney, it’s believed, is feeling pretty darn good about himself which could mean trouble.
