OBAMA DAUGHTERS OFFICIALLY JOIN WHITE HOUSE STAFF
October 5 2011
Washington, D.C. – Presidential families have always played a major role in politics, whether their parents would like to admit it or not. Whether it is the controversial or just downright silliness of the Carter and Clinton siblings, or the pleasant presence of young children, the family has always played a role.
As much as Barack and Michelle Obama tried to keep their children out of the political game, they got into it. The Obama’s tried to manipulate that presence, keep it isolated to just the family-friendly presidential family picture, but the kids have played a larger role despite those efforts. Now, perhaps acknowledging the ever expanding role that Sasha and Malia have been playing in the day-to-day operations of the country, the children have been officially put on staff at the White House, though their exact roles have not been made public.
The children, 13 and 10, were listed for the first time as members of the senior staff during a recent visit to Africa with their mother.
“The children have been unofficially on staff for a while, advising both their parents on a number of issues, principally youth-oriented issues. Surprisingly though, both children are very adept when it comes to international politics. That really surprised
everyone,” said a White House insider. “Malia’s views on Iran are really quite revolutionary. Unfortunately neither of them has a real solution to the economic problems and that really is the focus of the President. That has been frustrating for the kids because their ideas are really not being taken seriously because of that focus.”
Malia has apparently proposed shipping iPhones to Iran to help the people of the country better communicate with one another. She is also of the opinion that Kim Jong-il is icky, a sentiment shared by her sister.
“They had to get special approval to put the children on staff, and yes, despite what everyone has been concerned about, they have received approval from Congress. John Boehner himself has employed his children for a number of years in a number of positions. He is a big believer in bringing your children into work,” continued the insider. “This is a little different though because they have access to top secret documents and details of complex negotiations. They had to get special clearance and be investigated by the FBI. Luckily they passed and everything is good.”
Sasha apparently had a serious incident in first grade, but was still approved for Top Secret clearance.
“They have really done a great job so far. I know that a lot of people might be concerned that this is just nepotism but it really is more than that. The girls really have a knack for this and they have proven themselves valuable over and over again and that is the real reason they are on staff,” continued the insider. “They are special children and I imagine that if Obama wins re-election next year they will see their roles expanded. Malia in particular has expressed interest in working in the Pentagon, both because of her interest in the international side of things and because she thinks the building looks pretty cool, which it does.”
Sasha will reportedly be briefing other White House staff on the details of the African mission.
