DEMOCRATS JUMP ON MCCAIN’S GIRLY PICK
August 29 2008
Washington, D.C. – With Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin the official choice for John McCain’s running mate, the democratic knives are already out. The largely inexperienced Palin has already become the centrepiece of the Democratic assault, with her greenhorn status and her gender being the primary targets.
Inexperience, one of the hallmarks of the Republican attacks on Obama, seems an obvious target for the Democrats to strike. Palin has been Governor of Alaska for a little under two years and before that was Mayor of small town Wasila, Alaska. While that has already become a talking point for democrats, many are suggesting that the decision was made primarily on the Governor’s gender and not her political experience.
“There’s little doubt that her gender was a major factor in the decision,” said Scrape TV political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “With Clinton out of the game, and with Obama obviously being historical, the McCain campaign wanted to show the voters that they too could be progressive; that the Democrats don’t have a stranglehold on diversity. Of course the Republicans have only the second woman ever on a major ticket, they have to know that they are going to the subject of some name calling.”
And the name calling has already happened. Taking a page from the Republican book, pundits and the Obama campaign have already begun attacking the choice. And while inexperience may be a valid complaint against the Governor, many are seeing the criticism as the attacks on Obama were seen; as a thinly veiled attack on her gender.
“McCain has made a bold move here, there’s no doubt about that,” continued Kinsey. “They are countering the Democrat’s inexperienced minority with an even more inexperienced minority. While that’s sure to play well to the bleeding hearts, it may not win many votes. That segment of the population tends to be more liberal, political correctness tends to not play so well to the redneck populace. Nonetheless, at least they took away one of the Democrats whiny complaints.”
Reaction has been largely mixed so far, and over the course of the next few days as the Republican National Convention gets underway there is sure to be much debate as to the wisdom of the choice. Obne thing is for certain though, no one will really know how the American people will react until November rolls around and history, one way or the other is made.
Kinsey continued, “Sure Obama is black, but he’s a man. That makes a big difference, especially in the playground. Boys may not look as pretty or play as well on the covers of magazines as women, but they tend to rule the yard at the end of the day, like it or not. I think the more interesting question will be is who gets the most death threats. The outcome is going to be something to watch no matter which way it goes.”
The Republican convention starts this Monday.
