Denver, CO – While the much hyped appearance of Senator Ted Kennedy, just two months after surgery for brain Cancer, excited many at the Pepsi Center, some convention goers were left a little let down, expecting a different Kennedy altogether.
“I am a little disappointed to be honest. I still have total faith in Obama, but I was hoping for John or Robert,” said one convention goer from Maryland. “Barack can pull it out though, if anyone can reunite the Kennedy clan it’s him, just like he’s the only one who can unite the country.”
Former President John F. Kennedy was of course assassinated in 1963; his brother Robert in 1968. Nonetheless, the overwhelming fervour that accompanies Obama wherever he goes has convinced a great number of Democrats that he is capable of such acts as resurrection.
“Barack is a fantastic candidate and will make a fantastic president when he is elected in November,” said DNC chairman Howard Dean. “I think he is a few steps away from bringing the dead back to life though. I can see the comparisons to JFK, but the comparisons to Jesus are a little far-fetched. I can pretty much guarantee that neither John nor Robert Kennedy will be attending the convention, though it is great to see Ted up on his feet.”
Dean’s comments though are doing nothing to dampen the spirits of the convention attendees, at least not the Obama supporters. Many of them feel that even though he did not bring the deceased Kennedy’s to the convention, it was more an issue of choice rather than ability.
“Something like that, well something like that would overshadow the whole convention I think. It just wouldn’t be a good move,” said another supporter from Obama’s home state of Illinois. “Barack is a miracle worker but he’s also very shrewd. I personally think he can do anything he wants, it’s just a matter of want.”
Of course not all attendees are Obama supporters. Hillary Clinton loyalists still number very highly here and they are not as convinced of Obama’s otherworldly abilities.
“Give me a break. The guy stole the primary from Hillary,” said one supporter who preferred to keep his home state private. “I guess in a way you could call the whole primary fiasco a miracle so maybe there’s something there, but realistically, c’mon, Hillary should be President.”
Undaunted by the criticism though, the Obama supporters are still out in full force.
“Barack will deliver. Barack is the way. He is the future.”
The convention runs through Thursday. There have been no reports of water turning into wine, or of Obama walking on water.
