SARAH PALIN HAS FEELINGS HURT OVER CLOTHING CONTROVERSY, NO ONE APOLOGIZES

October 25 2008

Washington D.C. - "It's kind of painful to be criticized for something when all the facts are not out there and are not reported," said Sarah Palin. "I think Hillary Clinton was held to a different standard in her primary race. Do you remember the conversations that took place about her, say superficial things that they don't talk about with men, her wardrobe and her hairstyles, all of that? That's a bit of that double standard."sarah palin at rally

The comments came in response to criticism over the reported $150,000 makeover and clothing expenditure that was reportedly spent by the RNC on the Republican Vice-Presidential candidate in the days leading up to the National Convention. Both Palin and John McCain have hit back at the reports, claiming among other things Palin has not kept the clothing and that it will be donated to charity. The critics though have sharpened their knives.

“It’s a difficult thing to explain to the public that you are fighting for Joe the Plumber and yet are shopping at Neiman Marcus. With people losing their homes and jobs, that’s a hard argument to go up against,” said Scrape TV political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “And they aren’t doing a very good job of arguing the point. They have waited so long after the controversy started that they have stirred it up again. Plus Palin has exposed herself again as being a little less than intellectually sophisticated. Hillary Clinton not being subject to this kind of scrutiny is not an example of a double standard, it’s in fact proof that there is no double standard and the criticism is being leveled at Palin herself, regardless of her gender. If Joe Biden were taking clothes from the DNC and nothing was being said, that would be a double standard. Again, she shows very basic understanding of the English language and that isn’t what they need right now.”

The issue for most though is not the expenditure but the reaction of the campaign. While Palin has been attacked for everything from her manner of speech to her relative lack of experience, these are the types of things that politicians on the national stage are forced to endure. Yet Palin has not responded to these attacks with the panache of a seasoned politician, but rather as a Joe the Plumber who has been forced into the spotlight unwillingly.saks fifth avenue

“She keeps lashing outwards and blaming others for criticising her and she doesn’t seem to understand that that is what the media does. Her reactions only spur them on,” continued Kinsey. “As Vice-President or even potentially as President would she sit down with Vladimir Putin and get upset with him for being mean to her? How would she negotiate something like Darfur? Being in office means you have to have a thick skin and realize that they aren’t just out to get you. You have to be tough and mature and not bite every time someone goads you. That kind of insecurity doesn’t give the American people a whole lot of faith in you, and for the nastier people out there in the world, that’s weakness. Katie Couric has nothing on Hugo Chavez or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. She has to be tough, not a whiner. Ask McCain for lessons in toughness, he’s got that in spades.”

Palin has also apparently invested in a designer bulletproof vest from Saks Fifth Avenue in an effort to shield herself from attacks. It is not clear if whether or not Palin paid for the vest herself.
