OUR RESPONSE TO KANYE WEST
As some of you may have read Kanye West has made a posting on his blog denying that he has claimed himself as “The New King of Pop” (read his post here). This denial is in response to a story that we published on June 29, 2009 (read it here).
We have received a great deal of inquiries regarding this story as it has made the rounds across the web. While we normally do not comment on the content we publish, this situation is a special one that we feel needs to be addressed.
As a news organization it is our responsibility to report the news on an ‘as-is’ basis. We feel it is improper and unethical for any news organization to provide comment on news and happenings and this is something we have never, and will never, participate in on our site.
Further, we feel it is the duty of all responsible news organizations to properly source all stories and persons with which we have dealing. In the case of this story we have abided by these two principles.
Though we will make no aspersions on Mr. West’s comments we do stand behind our story and our editorial principles and want to ensure that no one, not celebrity nor politician, is able to alter the truth out of some sense of regret or self-rapprochement. Such abuses speak to the very heart of free speech and the nature of an open society.
