TIM DONAGHY MAKES HIS WAY TO VEGAS AFTER RELEASE FROM PRISON

November 7 2009

Las Vegas, NV – There are few scandals as despised in professional sports as those that arise from gambling on the outcome of games. Perhaps seen as an affront to the perception of fairness, bettors intimately involved in the sport have routinely received pete rose
much harsher punishment than those convicted of more severe social crimes. The 1919 Chicago White Sox are perhaps the most famous example of the vengeance of sports on those who would disrupt to piety of the sport, though others have followed. Names such as Pete Rose, Alex Karras, and even Michael Jordan are just a few that have been to subject of such investigations.

In 2007, another name was added to that list, NBA referee Tim Donaghy. In August of that year, Donaghy was convicted of betting on games that he had officiated over, calling into question the results of those contests and opening up a deep hole in the veracity of officiating in the league. Much of that controversy has now blown over with virtually all of the blame being placed on the one man. Now, after a year in prison Donaghy has officially been released, free to pursue his life once again outside basketball. With a tell all book waiting in the pipes and new job prospects already lined up, Donaghy is reportedly resting in Las Vegas while preparing to re-enter society.tim donaghy prison

“I’ve learned my lesson. I’ve lost my career, my marriage, my family, and my self-respect. This experience has been the hardest that I’ve ever gone through and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. I know that I am the only one to blame and I take full responsibility for my actions,” said Donaghy in a prepared statement. “I’m currently planning on restarting my life in Florida and making things right with my family and friends. My more immediate plans are to spend a little time just resting and relaxing. I’m going to allow myself a little time to wind down and just breathe after the whirlwind emotions of the last two years.”

Donaghy will reportedly be staying at the Flamingo hotel while he readjusts to life outside prison and the glare of media scrutiny. While there he plans on seeing Wayne Newton, catch the Cirque de Soleil, and make a trip to the Hoover Dam.tim donaghy

“Fairness, evenness, has always been the most important parts of any sport and so when that trust is violated fans and athletes understandably react very negatively towards those actions. Take the steroid issue as an example. At its heart the process of athletes taking steroids is an issue of cheating which is something that totally undermines any kind of honesty and integrity that exists in the sport,” said Scrape TV Sports analyst Mark Marvins. “That, at its core, is the reason that things like steroids and gambling are so hated in sport. They take away the fairness of the game and give an advantage to the cheaters, spoiling the moral certitude of the game.”

Donaghy assured prison officials that while in Vegas he will go nowhere near casinos or any kind of sports betting booths.tim donaghy

“Look at a team like the New York Yankees. They just won their 27th World Series Championship and they did that through sheer determination, will, and talent. They weren’t paying off officials or injecting drugs. They played the game honestly and bettered every other team in the league without cheating,” continued Marvins. “They should really be an example for all sports teams. If every team played the game like the Yankees did this year then we wouldn’t be seeing these kinds of issues arising. We would have a level playing field that everyone could compete on fairly.”

Donaghy also apparently wants to save enough money to travel to Europe in the near future, something his release will allow. He stated that he plans on hitting Monte Carlo and Montenegro while there taking in the sights.
