‘OUT OF THE BLUE’ BEHEADING CASTS PALL ON PLANNED BEHEADINGS
April 1 2009
Milton, MA – The horrific and brutal slayings of a young family have sent this small town into shock. Dead are 17-year old Samantha Revelus and 5-year old Bianca Revelus who were both killed by their 23-year old brother Kerby. Like many domestic killings, no one expected such violence even from a man prone to violent outbursts. Bianca’s calling in particular shocked police as she was decapitated in front of an officer who called the attack ‘Out of the Blue’, as opposed to the many expected beheadings of 5-year olds in the city.
With a population of just under 26,000 people murders in Milton are extremely rare and most that do happen are expected. The surprise killings have unsettled this small town and already creating an outcry for more extensive monitoring of high risk individuals in order to better organize killings throughout the town and the greater Milton area.
“It’s very common in most big cities for mass killings to come out of the blue but in small towns like Milton everyone knows each other and murders are generally expected. In big cities, even
moderate size cities, people keep to themselves but small towns are different, have a totally different attitude not only towards each other but also to death,” said Scrape TV American analyst Dave Davidson. “When an incident like this occurs people inevitably say it’s a shock, or he was such a nice boy but in large cities that’s just talk. In small places it’s true and everyone somehow knows exactly whose going to be doing the killing.”
Officials also report that the officer who witnessed the beheading remained calm and continued to communicate to the other officers even as Revelus removed his sister’s head, indicating that at least someone wasn’t totally shocked by the incident.
“It would be a real shame if a police officer knew what was going on before it happened and decided not to act. Two young girls are dead and if anything could have been done to prevent the surprise it really should have been,” continued Davidson. “Knowing in advance that this was going to occur would have given the town a great level of relief and allowed them to prepare for the event. If someone had foreknowledge of this incident, outside the assailant that is, then they really should have come forward.”
The majority of mass killings in the United States have occurred in major urban centres such as Los Angeles with Richard Ramirez or Chicago with John Wayne Gacy. The most famous killer from a relatively small town was Jeffrey Dahmer who killed the majority of his victims in Milwaukee. Many point to that incident as the ultimate example of unexpected mass murder.
“Dahmer was established in the community and kept to himself. Milwaukee is one of those large small towns that was just a little too large for people to keep track of everyone else. In that case everyone came away shocked or at least gave the impression that they were which really cemented that rhetoric in people’s minds,” said Scrape TV Mass Murder analyst Drake Webber. “It would be a real shame if secret murders started to take hold in small town America because that really isn’t what America is about. Hopefully as well people aren’t just buying into the same mindshare that has so taken people in large cities. Clichés don’t really go far in small towns, honesty does, and hopefully that will never change.”
Some also point to the media as purveyors if said clichés and exploitation of traumatized people. We attempted to contact the media but they declined comment.
