CIA INVESTIGATES VIETNAM LINK IN ROBERT MCNAMARA DEATH

Washington, D.C. – The war in Vietnam was undoubtedly one of the most traumatic and momentous events in the history of the United States and Vietnam. The conflict between the countries has forever intertwined the histories of the two nations and become a flash point for commentary on every war that the U.S. has waged since. For 
many the war is an abstract, an event told through Hollywood but only circumstantially a real event. Nearly forty years since the end of the war and veterans of the conflict gradually disappearing, many are concerned that the conflict may pass forever into history.
Robert McNamara was one of the chief architects of the conflict. His work in the Kennedy and Johnson administration pushed the nation further and further into the conflict helping to solidify its place in the physical and cultural history of both nations. With his death at the age of 93 both nations now look to close another chapter in the conflict that cost so many lives but already questions are beginning to swirl around the nature of the former Secretary of Defense’s death. Though early indications are that McNamara died peacefully in his home many are investigating a possible link to Vietnamese militants with links to Al Qaeda. 
“We first want to pass our sympathies on to the McNamara family. His service to this country was like none other in history. From his essential contributions to the nation in both Vietnam and the second World War to his representation of the country in the global community as head of the World Bank, Robert McNamara embodied all the truly great qualities of what is to be an American,” said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. “It is in that spirit that we are exploring all options in respect to his death. We do realize that Mr. McNamara was elderly and that often natural causes can precipitate death in people of a certain age but we do need to make sure. Because of the controversial nature of his tenure as Secretary of Defense Mr. McNamara made a lot of enemies and we want to ensure that his death truly was natural.”
Sources indicate that the administration and the CIA are primarily interested in the VPF, Vietnamese Peoples Front, as possible facilitators of the plot to kill McNamara. The organization has long been known for its prolonged plots that generally wait their targets out until they die of old age. The organization is suspected of actions against a number of Vietnamese officials as well as American celebrities Bob Hope and George Burns.
“There’s little doubt that there are a lot of people in Vietnam who still hold McNamara
primarily responsible for the action in Vietnam. There are a lot of families that were destroyed by that war that he essentially created and that creates a lot of long lasting animosity that people would like to resolve,” said Scrape TV International Conflict analyst Mario Martinez. “There’s really no shortage of motivations to kill someone like McNamara but if they did it is an awfully convoluted though remarkably patient way to do it. Of course if he did just die of old age they really didn’t have a hand in his death and would therefore be difficult to prosecute. Of course if they have ties with Al Qaeda in any capacity, well that changes the game entirely.”
McNamara was said to have been found with sheets of data concerning the topography and political structure of Vietnam, indicating that he was either plotting a return to the country or that someone made it look like he was.
“McNamara’s success was based on his ability to calculate odds and come to logical and generally correct conclusions. If this organization was indeed involved then they would have been employing much the same logic. Reason would dictate that McNamara would indeed die of old age at some point and in order to succeed they would just need to wait until that time and they would have success. It’s a plot even he would have been proud of,” continued Martinez. “Of course if he was indeed plotting against the country than that is a different story entirely. It’s likely he had little or no political influence anymore but he was extremely smart and could convince the right people if needed. Maybe he wanted to exorcise the demons of the war by finally winning it. That would have been motive enough to take him out.”
VPF officials had no comment on the death and took an extremely long time to answer the phone.
