POLICE BELIEVE DECAYING CORPSES FOUND IN RAPIST’S HOUSE WERE LIKELY MURDERED

November 1 2009

Cleveland, OH – The horrifying discovery of six badly decomposed bodies at the home of a suspected rapist on Cleveland’s east side has led police to believe that they may have been the victims of foul play. On Friday, Cleveland Police tracked Anthony anthony sowell
Sowell, a convicted rapist, on suspicions of another assault. Upon his arrest, Police discovered numerous decomposing bodies in his home. Now an early coroner’s report concludes the bodies, all belonging to young women, were in fact the victims of murder.

Sowell was convicted in 1989 for rape and was freed after spending 15 years in prison. Police closed in on the arrest early Saturday, acting on accusations from two women. Sowell was snagged by police as he walked down the street near his home. The bodies were discovered in the hours following that arrest.

“We can confirm that the six bodies discovered on Friday and Saturday were all the victims of murder. We have tentatively identified two of the victims but due to the coroner
severe rate of decomposition, it will be some time before we are able to positively identify all six of the bodies. Four of the victims appear to have been strangled and as yet we have been unable to determine the exact cause of death for the remaining two,” said a spokesperson for the Cleveland coroner’s office. “Please contact your local police detachment with any information you might have regarding the identity of these young women so that we will be able to quickly establish their identities and bring some sense of closure to their families.”

Cleveland police have set up a special task force for any residents who might have information regarding the identities of the young women.

“The Cleveland police department really has to be given a lot of credit here. For many years they have been under the gun because of rampant crime throughout the city

but in this case they seem to have some through. They quickly discovered the bodies and coroner swiftly determined that they were in fact victims of murder which hopefully will mean a swift resolution to the case,” said Scrape TV Crime analyst Willard Weston. “In the past something like this would have gone on and on for months. First they would have to make sure that people were dead, then they would have to determine how they died and it would have just gone on and on. Luckily though the police and other agencies have really taken this new attitude of change on in earnest and that means that a lot more crimes will be solved efficiently.”

The coroner’s office noted that generally speaking people did not crowd together and die in the same place, an observation which helped lead them to the swift conclusion that foul play had indeed occurred. cleveland decay

“I have complete faith in our law enforcement personnel to bring this horrific case to a swift and firm resolution. The hard work of our men and women has brought the case and the victims this far and I expect that in the next few days we will have a firm conclusion to these sad events,” said Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson. “It is also heartening to know that our recent efforts have had such positive results. We fully realize the failings of the past and we are very glad that they are no longer affecting the people of the city which we are determined to make into a safe place for families.”

Mayoral aides acknowledged that in the past rotting corpses went on more or less ignored.decayed body

“There was a time in Cleveland when the appearance of a house of corpses would simply cause chaos and confusion and eventually just a kind of burying of the collective heads in the sand but no longer,” continued Weston. “Now the people of Cleveland can feel safe that whenever and wherever rotting and decayed bodies are found the police agencies will investigate and prosecute the offenders accordingly.”

Fifteen other decaying corpses were also found throughout the Cleveland area on Saturday, a high for October.
