LOSER COMMITS SUICIDE AFTER CYBER-BULLYING INCIDENT

January 27 2010

South Hadley, MA – Bullying is something that has plagued many children likely from the very earliest days of schools. Rarely is there any pattern to the phenomenon, though smaller children are most frequently the subject of such attacks. Sociologists bullying
have pointed to genetic rationales and the process of dominance and submission that so often plays a role in adult society as the reason for such behaviour, though no firm conclusions have ever been drawn and the practice goes on unabated, sometimes to tragic ends.

The rise of web culture has only exacerbated the issue, allowing bullies a whole new venue and audience from which to inflict their torture on their victims. The circumstances often remain the same, but the lack of respite and the ability for web-based abuse to reach people who normally would not have any say in the issue has made for more than a few tragedies. One of those tragedies is the recent case of 15-year old Phoebe Prince, a student and South Hadley High School who hanged herself just days before a much phoebe prince
anticipated cotillion. Early reports indicate that the girl was bullied by a group of popular girls, principally because of who she was dating. Now though as new evidence comes to light it appears that Prince, a recent immigrant from Ireland, was much more of a loser than previously believed.

“The environment at that school is harsh. It’s like a cliché of a bullying high school in many ways. Almost like the kind you see in movies but this was real life. Violence, verbal abuse, and a lot of snotty looks for really minor incidents, and just a bunch of bad behaviour are all commonplace at the school,” said Kevin Cullen who wrote an expose on the school. “I mean no one deserves to die for who they date and ultimately they pushed her to this end, but it seems more and more like it was inevitable. She was soft, she didn’t fit in, and she was way outside her element. It was those factors that prompted her becoming the target of bullying and nothing else. She was a loser, they picked on her, and this was the unfortunate end.”

Prince was harassed over the phone and Facebook, but was unwilling to change her number or restrict her privacy settings for fear of losing the few friends she had.mean girls

“It’s a tragedy, there’s little doubt about that but the real tragedy is that this girl was such a pitiful type of person. She was young, pretty, and likely had a sexy accent all of which could have made her really popular but ultimately it was her personality that let her down and made her the loser she turned out to be,” continued Cullen. “There are a lot of these types of incidents recently but the one thing that connects them all isn’t the cyber bullying, it’s the fact that these kids are just losers. That’s the issue that needs to really be dealt with.”

Losers frequently turn out to be great success in later life, should they live that long.loser

“The question these families, and really families all across the country, need to ask themselves is why are our kids such losers? Families should be looking to raise bright and confident young men and women but they are ending up with a pack of geeks, nerds, and losers who end up getting bullied. This is the end result of that type of upbringing,” said Scrape TV American analyst Dave Davidson. “Not everyone can be on the cheerleading team or play football, but they don’t need to huddle in a corner playing euchre every lunch either. Bullies need someone to bully and unfortunately that’s all too easy to find in today’s society.”

Prince’s boyfriend has apparently already moved on to someone better.
