MICHELLE OBAMA’S SCHOOL LUNCHES STARVING PICKY EATERS IN KANSAS
September 25 2012
Wichita, KS – Officially, First Lady is not a job. It is not an elected position nor a hired one, it is simply a default position, one held by virtue of who that particular lady chose to marry years before their husbands ever won office.
The role of the First Lady, though, particularly in the United States, has long been a more complex role than one just supporting their husbands. From the start, Martha Washington, First Ladies have taken an active role in the nation they help to oversee and in recent years that role has become even more complex and involved, blossoming into a full-fledged position that has a real impact on lives.
Perhaps no First Lady has taken a more proactive role than Michelle Obama whose primary focus has been food health. From planting a garden on the White House grounds to pushing for changes to school menus across the nation, Michelle Obama has had a real impact on the lives of people across the country, an impact some don’t really appreciate because they don’t like eating the things she has put in front of them and want more, more, more.
“There’s just not enough food. When you have chores in the morning and football practice after school, you need energy. … This doesn’t cut it,” said Callahan Grund, a student in Kansas who is forced to eat the crap that Michelle Obama has said he has to eat.
Federal regulations limit lunches to 850 calories for high school students which is not enough, some say, for athletes particularly those in rural areas who have to work on farms and the like.
They also don’t like having to eat vegetables for the most part because they don’t taste as good as french fries or onion rings.
“Obviously in any system like this you are going to have to have exceptions. Clearly some computer nerd sitting at his desk all day doesn’t need to eat as much as a start quarterback, clearly, and these rules really restrict any kind of potential changes to that unless of course people start bringing their own lunches or cash and going out to the pizza place. I mean there are options other than complaining,” said Scrape TV Health analyst Rebecca Phelps. “I’m sure Michelle Obama doesn’t want students collapsing in hallways and struggling to survive but this is hardly Somalia. Kansas is still technically in the United States so it’s not like these people don’t have options of some kind.”
It’s not clear if Kansas is being targeted more harshly than other states, either because it sucks or because it votes Republican.
“The truth is that teenagers do consume more calories and need to than other ages
and because of that maybe they should consider some changes to the strict rules, or not. It’s a tough balancing act trying to stop people from being fat and not preventing them from growing and being able to function. It’s not a perfect system, that’s for sure,” continued Phelps. “I think, though, blaming Obama is perhaps not the best way to go about this. The people to blame are the fatties, the people who eat Fritos and drink Dr. Pepper at every meal. They should go after those people and that will takes the focus off school lunches and allow kids to eat what they want. It’s always the fatties fault, always.”
It’s not clear if the protesting students will go after the fatties any more than they usually do, perhaps stealing their food for themselves. That would solve both problems really.
