U.S. MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE KNOWN ABOUT LIBYAN EMBASSY ATTACK BEFOREHAND BUT THEY DID NOTHING EITHER WAY
September 15 2012
Washington, D.C. – Few could have anticipated, no matter how vivid the imagination, that a small event in Libya would have spiraled out of control the way it has done. That even was of course the attack on the U.S, embassy in the country that lead to the deaths of multiple officials including Ambassador Chris Stevens.
From that, many more similar events have been sparked. Across Africa, the Middle East, and now even into Europe and Australia the riots that consumed Libya have continued to propagate and become a serious international security issue.
Whatever the root cause of that initial attack – the bizarre little film on YouTube or terrorism – the riots have taken on a life of their own ad become something way beyond what anyone could have anticipated, even the United States which apparently had anticipated the initial attack, or not, but either way they did nothing to stop it because the attack happened. Presumably they would have been able to accomplish stopping it had they tried which they clearly did not do.
“The US State Department had credible information 48 hours before mobs charged the consulate in Benghazi, and the embassy in Cairo, that American missions may be targeted, but no warnings were given for diplomats to go on high alert and "lockdown", under which movement is severely restricted,” sources told The Independent.
Those initial attacks are believed to have been orchestrated by some kind of fundamentalist group possibly with ties to the Gaddafi family.
Four people have been arrested in the Libyan riots despite 400 people having participated.
“These types of stories, of knowing well in advance and simply allowing the event to happen, are common when these events occur in large part because you are putting together a complete picture with all the information present. That is something you don’t really have at the beginning and so it’s tough to figure things out precisely,” said Scrape TV International Conflict analyst Mario Martinez. “There may well have been some advanced information, even a great deal of it, but that doesn’t mean it was actionable intelligence or even had the semblance of that until after it actually happened. I mean people talk crap all the time and you can’t take everyone seriously. You’d get al bunged up if you did that.”
U.S. officials have denied any specific knowledge beforehand, as expected.
“Clearly if the U.S. knew about this before it happened it would be a bad thing for them because they let it happen either because Obama is a secret Muslim who hates America or because they are just lousy at their jobs. Either way, not good, not good at all really,” continued Martinez. “I mean there could be a more innocent reason why the government decided not to act on the information and allow all those people to be killed and these riots to spread but darned if I can figure it out. Maybe if I had more information but right now I’ll just make assumptions.”
Obama has not openly denied having prior knowledge of the attack so there’s that.
