MAN ACCUSED OF IMPERSONATING POLICE OFFICER DEFENDS SELF IN COURT

Feb 4 2008

Paducah, KY - It began as a simple traffic stop after running a stop sign, but little did Heather Wassmer realize she would end up in court. It turns out the man who had pulled her over was not in fact a police officer, but rather a local con artist.

Wassmer, whose boyfriend is an actual police officer made a quick call to the police, where it is was quickly discovered that the man was not in fact a police officer. “You hear something like that and you just feel lucky that nothing bad happened.”

That man, Phillip Hansen, has been charged with impersonating a police officer and forcible confinement.

Due in court today, Hansen has taken on the unusual effort to represent himself after dismissing his court appointed attorney.

“Mr. Hansen has decided he does not want the services of a public attorney and chosen to represent himself in court,” says dismissed attorney Harold Harvey. “It’s something we usually recommend against, but he was actually quite convincing.”dancing cop

“I have read some law books in the past, and have access to the internet. Plus I have a suit. So I thought it best to take my future into my own hands and defend myself.” Said accused Walter Stanley Walker, an unemployed actor.

Judge Peter Fayshon assented to the unusual request after an especially effective discussion with the accused, “If he hadn’t told me that he wasn’t a lawyer, I would have believed he was. He’s very good.”

As the sole witness for the prosecution, Ms Wassmer expressed concern over being questioned by the accused. “It seems a little strange, I can’t quite figure out what kind of questions he’s going to ask. Everyone keeps telling me that he makes for a very convincing lawyer so I guess I’ll hold off judgement until we get into court.”

The case is due to resume on Monday.
