ACTUAL JOE SIXPACK SUING REPUBLICAN PARTY
October 8 2008
Boise, ID - In last week’s Vice Presidential debate Republican candidate Sarah Palin gained a lot of traction from the term ‘Joe Sixpack’, a reference to the average American that she claims to represent. Now one average American is doing what many average Americans have done before him, suing.
Through his lawyer, Joe Sixpack of Boise Idaho presented a lawsuit to the Idaho State Judiciary requesting that the Republican party and specifically Governor Palin cease using the term ‘Joe Sixpack’ and pay compensation to make for ‘mental anguish’.
“It’s been a very difficult time for me. My Democrat and Republican friends have been merciless since the debate,” said Sixpack from his average home in Boise. “It’s been hard enough growing up with aname like that but now that it’s being used as sort of political talk it’s become even more trouble. I have trouble going to work; I’m getting harassing emails, it’s just never ending. I don’t think the Governor understood what she was doing when she said that and she needs to stop.”
Details of the lawsuit have not been revealed, but it is estimated to be in the millions. A success of course would change Joe Sixpack’s life forever.
“I’m not in this for the money, though I admit it would be nice. The economy stinks and I’m busting my ass trying to pay mortgage and buy food, but that isn’t the real reason for me suing,” continued Sixpack. “I want my life back and I don’t want aRepublican using my name to try and get elected. It’s offensive really.”
For the record, Sixpack claims to be a Libertarian and will be voting for Bob Barr in the election. He claims that the suit has less to do with his political leanings, and more about the personal issue.
“I have a wife and kids and they have to go to work and school and deal with this as well. I just want her to stop using the term. I don’t see how it represents the average American anyway. Most guys I know drink way more than a six pack and there’s no way it’s talking about their guts.”
Sixpack’s lawyer Gilbert Hawkes claims that the lawsuit has merit and believes that they will be successful in stopping usage of the word not only in the political campaign, but in general usage.
“Words can be hurtful. My client was born with this name and he has had to suffer cruel taunts his entire life about being normal and average. Sure he may be those things but no one wants to be reminded everyday that they are nothing special. We feel this lawsuit will bring about a shift in attitude so that average everyday Americans will respect their fellow average everyday Americans. We firmly believe we will be successful.”
Hawkes also denied that money was a factor in the suit, but did admit that if they won it would be an interestingly ironic lawsuit.
“Joe is an average guy and I don’t believe that winning millions of dollars will change that. It will be a blow for the average American at least philosophically. Remember, he’s got legal fees and he lost a bunch of money in the stock market collapse. He will at least gain his name back, but probably break even in the end financially. Which really, makes him above average.”
Reached for comment officials for Sarah Palin and John McCain would not talk about the lawsuit, simply saying “We are fighting for the average American and we are talking to our lawyers.”
